Job Category: Research & Development Job Family: Applied Research & Development Job Description: To lead and set direction for R&D Technical Innovation team including Sensory, Optimization, and R&D Innovation to support and further the overall Growth and Strategy group and Schreiber agenda. Take lead in industry and academic outreach to understand latest science and technology. Work with our innovation and ventures team to help vet new technologies and/or services that support Schreiber Foods. Create strategies and curriculum to help train and educate Schreiber partners on dairy/food chemistry and product science to improve overall competency. Support Innovation and Product Development groups by providing technical expertise and support on key projects as necessary.
This onsite position is located at our Home Office in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

What you'll do:
- Responsible for coaching, leading, and mentoring R&D partners and developing the talent pipeline.
- Contributes to and establishes plans that have short, mid, and long-term impact on the R&D Department and Schreiber Foods:
- Leads the implementation of strategies as set forth by the organization ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Accountable for R&D results on significant medium and large sized projects
- Communicates cross functionally within the organization and with stakeholders in industry, academia, suppliers, and customers
- Develop cross functional relationships with leaders and groups in Product Strategies, Marketing/Insights, Sales, Sourcing, and Operations to understand needs and provide effective support and solutions. Work collaboratively with the Product Development Director to identify needs and provide resources and support for projects as necessary.
- Requires proficient management and leadership acumen to spearhead complex, cross functional project teams to drive initiatives across multiple departments, product lines, and job family groups.
- Works to drive influence and consensus among diverse groups, advocating for the vision and strategic initiatives of the department and company.
- Communicates complex concepts to executive leadership on matters of critical importance to the organization
- Negotiates and resolves challenges that arise in projects and cross functional work
- Actively participate in industry trade associations and professional organizations, such as the National Cheese Institute (NCI), Food Research Institute (FRI), American Dairy Science Association (ADSA), and Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). Actively interact with relevant universities and dairy research centers with the objective of keeping Schreiber competitive in the technological arena.

- Overseas complex projects involving cross functional teams
- Responsible for developing and implementing strategic workforce and talent management plans to ensure alignment with business objectives and the availability of high-caliber talent
- Develop long term strategies for sensory and direct the teams and programs to support product development, innovation, strategy, ventures, and optimization.
- Provide direction and prioritization to assign projects to scientists to support ongoing technical issues facing operations and/or customers as well as projects to support the Product Development and Innovation groups.
- Develop a strategy and content to train and educate the scientists and partners in other functions on product, process and technology to improve overall technical competency within the organization
- When requested, understand Schreiber R&D needs outside the US and provide strategic input, direction and resources to support key initiatives globally.
- Exhibit a high level of mastery in food/dairy science product development and innovation with proven success in the marketplace
- Together with the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups. Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met. Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.
What you will need to succeed:
- Masters/Bachelors/pHd degree in Food/Dairy Science or MBA
- 15+ years' experience in R&D, Quality or Dairy, or Dairy Operations
- Strong technical expertise in Dairy/Food Chemistry and Microbiology
- Proven Leadership and ability to develop cross-functional, collaborative relationships.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Technical expertise in dairy foods product development (Natural cheese, process cheese, cultured products, beverages).
- Ability to travel up to 20% within and outside of the U.S.
- Valid driver's license, auto insurance (at least state minimum- more might be required), acceptable driving record per Schreiber Foods discretion, and vehicle that will ensure applicant can meet the travel necessities of the position are required.
