Position Summary:
The CNC Machine Operator Trainee position is intended for candidates with no previous experience operating CNC Machinery. The CNC Machine Operator Trainee is a probationary role intended to assess an employees' abilities to safely operate CNC machining in a supervised capacity. They will be evaluated on their attendance and proficiency in training activities. They must possess basic math skills and meet physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of a CNC Machine Operator. The CNC Machine Operator Trainee should expect to work in a team environment under supervision of trainers, leads, supervisors, and quality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Introduction to all machine related controlled documentation.
- Introduction to replacing and setting tools.
- Introduction to cutting angles, cutting surface and tool geometry.
- Introduction to tool identification, components, assembly, and causes of wear.
- Introduction to alarm codes and notification lights that trainees should be able to identify but not solve to action and escalate appropriately; this includes broken tool alarms, tool change warnings, and tool change alerts.
- Develop basic blueprint reading skills through classroom training, e-learning, and process shadowing.
- Develop an understanding of loading and unloading machines in a safe consistent manner under direct supervision of trainers.
- Learn how to use equators and other handheld precision measuring equipment.
- Complete training assignments during the allotted time as indicated by the instructor/trainer.
- Participate in groups during training exercises.
- Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
- Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
- Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
- May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Typically requires 90-days in SIG's CNC Bootcamp.
- Must be able to read and understand work instructions in English.
- Must be able to convey ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately to others in English, both verbally and in written form.
- Basic computer and math skills are required.
- Some experience reading drawings is helpful but not required.
- Basic knowledge of “Machinist” or manufacturing terminology.
Working Conditions:
- Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
- Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
- Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
- The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
- Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
- Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
- Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
