2nd Shift

Position Summary:

The Machine Operator II will be responsible for tasks within Finishing, Engraving, Cerakote, Black Oxide, and Mag Cell.  Overall daily responsibilities can include minor assembly, working with small hand tools, sand blasters, and tumblers to finish mechanical parts.  Additionally, Team Members can engrave serial numbers and other features on SIG SAUER firearms as required and/or requested by our customers using various laser cutting machines to meet defined output rates. The position is responsible for the basic surface preparation of products for final assembly and customer use. This position is generally intended for experienced manufacturing/operations assembly/ technical individuals. Ability to demonstrate all level I tasks.  Additional level II personnel must demonstrate and perform at least two (2) of the following tasks.  Engraving serialization, Mag Cell operator (Wash, weld, sand), Advanced deburring techniques such as buffing & blending and wet blasting.  Will be required to work both independently and in a team environment with internal team members and quality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in all root cause activity analysis.
  • Independently master the use of automated and manual equipment to prep surfaces (sandblast), strip coating(acetone/sandblast), tumble, and racing (prep for chemical exposure).
  • May be responsible for training new operators.
  • Run Automatic Bead blast equipment, maintain and identify problems with blast machines.
  • Run all equipment and complete all preventative maintenance needed in the area. May be required to train others as needed.
  • Independently, master the use of automated and manual equipment, use chemicals to clean robots (acetone), strip coating (acetone/sand blast), run and mix the coating/painting booth, dunking mag tubes in multiple chemical processes.
  • Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to deburr a wide variety of all parts. Basic knowledge and ability to buff and blend per training matrix.
  • Basic understanding of loading parts and running programs. Ability to recover robots.
  • Ability to independently set-up and operate a CNC controlled robot, adding coating, monitoring robot spray, ability to adjust on the fly.
  • Seek and act upon ways to improve daily work processes to enhance quality and productivity and satisfy customer needs and expectations; initiate and encourage others to resolve impediments and act on improvement opportunities.
  • Advanced Laser Engraving and Automated Laser Cells
  • Ability to use calipers, depth microscope, control plans, UID scanner, hard gauging, and blue prints
  • Ability to engrave all non-serialized and serialized products.
  • Must be able to read and understand work instructions in English.
  • Basic computer and math skills required.
  • Must be able to convey ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately to others in English, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to read and follow through on all required paperwork including, but not limited to routers, work instructions, and control plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gauging.

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
