As an Ink Technician, you are responsible for the activities of the ink mixing/matching process including formulating inks and overseeing the color matching process.  This position is also responsible for the identification, quality auditing, allocation and purchasing of ink for production.

 

Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm

Key Responsibilities for Ink Technician include:

  • Review job specification sheets for job requirements, including ink type and quantities.
  • Match correct colors to PMS book or customer required color formulation, follow Smyth standards for proper documentation.
  • Blend, mix and color match UV Flexo and Water Based Flexo inks.
  • Maintain ink database, set up job standards, and create color match guidelines for new jobs.  Ensure color quality standards are maintained.
  • Maintain quality control of incoming raw materials, as well as documented inventory.  Provide accurate month-end inventory to Finance.
  • Assist with the company's hazardous waste program to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Ensure ink use, return, and documentation process is being followed by staff.
  • Authorize/sign off on jobs for color
  • Participate in continuous improvement team initiatives.

 

The candidate must demonstrate:

  • Ability to differentiate colors and tones and understand working knowledge of color theory.  Also, establish, document and communicate color standards and formulas, supporting Smyth's color management initiatives.
  • Possess strong mathematical and logical thinking aptitude.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, communications skills, and demonstrated initiative in problem solving/troubleshooting.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions including those dealing with dimensions and quantity.
  • Acquire and maintain company certifications required to meet regulatory needs.
  • Availability to work overtime as needed.

 

Education, Skillsand Experience:

  • Required: High school degree or equivalent. Vocational/Technical degree in press operations, graphic arts or related field preferred/a plus.
  • Required: 2+ years' experience with color matching and formulation
  • Required: Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Required: Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in the English language
  • A Plus: Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and ISO quality systems
