As a Layout Technician and member of the Graphic Imaging Department you will help bring our customers' package labels to life, enabling them to stand out over the competition, and create a customer experience that is second to none. Imagine walking through stores and seeing our labels on your favorite products and brands!

HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, hybrid/remote work available 

Compensation for Layout Technician will be based on the skills and experiences you bring to Smyth

Key Responsibilities for Layout Technician include:

  • Initial planning of production jobs, including layout, traps, colors, and special instructions that concern all areas of production
  • Creation and preparation of production jobs through utilization of planning software recommendations
  • Cross support for prepress, including proofing, inspection, and layout
  • Preparation and maintenance of appropriate documentation for Graphics Department
  • Technical resource and support for customer service planning and layout inquiries

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship building skills to effectively work with a diverse group/variety of people and personalities
  • Attention to detail, effective time management, and multi-tasking skills to meet deadlines on multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization
  • Effective and clear communication, both orally and in writing, to all levels of people inside and outside the organization

 

Education, Skills, and Experience for Layout Technician:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical school training preferred
  • Required: Two or more years' experience in the print industry and/or desktop training
  • Required: Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in the English language
  • Required: Color vision, visual acuity
  • Preferred: Knowledge of prepress software, including Esko, Phoenix and the digital plate process
