The Warehouse/Shipping Supervisor develops and maintains an organized and effective workflow through the warehouse and shipping departments to ensure quality, timeliness, and a professional inventory storage and delivery of finished product and raw materials.  This position will show hands-on leadership in areas of Lean Manufacturing, inventory management, BRC quality systems, innovation and current systems technology.

The Warehouse/Shipping Supervisor role is an Exempt/Salaried position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership, direction, training, performance management, and growth opportunities for warehouse and shipping staff through daily supervision; work to further establish an improvement-oriented environment and culture.
  • Define the structure and required staffing levels to obtain optimum efficiency; provide workflow assessments and recommendation for improvement as necessary.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement areas for lean improvement/modification.
  • Lead, or collaborate with, continuous improvement teams focusing on lean methodologies.  Assist with driving sustainability through training, controlled documents, and audits.
  • Ensure accurate and timely shipments, including overseeing special projects that require special packaging and shipping logistics.
  • Oversee the inventory management of packaging supplies, cartons, and miscellaneous shipping items to meet day to day production requirements.
  • Monitor the maintenance on warehouse and shipping equipment for both preventative and immediate repairs to ensure maximized efficiencies and available capacity.
  • Work closely with teams/departments to create an environment that supports workflow and continuous improvement of warehouse and shipping operations.
  • Work closely with the OpEx department to enhance quality and process improvement.
  • Collaborate with the customer service department regarding mailing lists, inventory, second class reporting and other matters relating to distribution and traffic.
  • Research, compile, and prepare reports, manuals, correspondence or other information required by management on a timely basis.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions in compliance with BRC and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Remain current concerning rates on all modes of transportation and select the best methods of shipment from the standpoint of economy and prompt delivery when appropriate.

Ideal candidate must demonstrate:

  • Thorough knowledge of warehouse and shipping procedures, as well as inventory management and organization.
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to mentor, guide, motivate and train a diverse team of people to develop and elevate quality and safety levels across the organization.
  • Ability to make fact-based decisions and troubleshoot issues to keep workflow running smoothly and efficiently
  • Effective time management to meet deadlines on multiple long- and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills, both orally and in writing, to all levels of associates inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to provide high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to perform HR-related functions such as hiring, orientation, training, managing performance, disciplinary action, etc.        Understanding, administering, and complying with HR policies and procedures.
  • Capability to establish, document and communicate clear performance expectations and standards, holding staff accountable for job performance and organizational behavior standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Required: 6+ years' related experience
  • Required: Must be willing to become forklift certified
  • Required: Ability to lift up to 50lbs, as well as stand and bend throughout the day
  • Required: Solid math, reading, and writing skills in the English language
  • Preferred: Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing and ISO/BRC quality systems
