The Medical Director works in partnership with the practice manager and service line director for their assigned clinical area providing leadership and oversight of the practice. The Medical Director will report directly to the South County Medical Group Chief of Physician Services, as well as, the system Chief Medical Officer. In addition, the Medical Director will meet with the providers under their scope of responsibility no less than monthly to provide coaching, mentoring and oversight.

2.Primary Responsibilities

This is a hybrid position including both leadership/administrative duties and clinical duties.

The Medical Director in partnership with the practice manager and service line director is responsible for patient safety, quality, regulatory compliance, operations and resource allocation, financial performance and strategy; reporting to their assigned Physician Chief, as well as, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

The Medical Director will be accountable for the performance of the providers under their scope of responsibility with regard to physician and advanced practice provider (APP) performance, privileges, quality performance, FPPE/OPPE, and mentoring/coaching.

The Medical Director in partnership with the practice manager and service line director(s) is responsible for making the call schedule for their assigned clinical area, ensuring continuous, uninterrupted coverage of the practice, as well as, South County Hospital. This may include, but is not limited to, reviewing and managing provider vacation requests in such a way to meet the stated goal.

The Medical Director is responsible for strategic leadership under their scope of responsibility in alignment with the vision and strategy of South County Health emphasizing patient safety, performance in risk contracts, patient access, quality and growth.

The Medical Director will effect change in accordance with the values of South County Health and lead by modeling those values at all times. Those values being Integrity, Caring, Respect, Excellence, Partnership and Stewardship.

The Medical Director is responsible for leading the practice level monthly meeting including maintaining and reporting of minutes. In addition, they will participate in committee, working groups and other administrative meetings as reasonably requested by the Executive Leadership Team.

The Medical Director will participate in the interviewing, hiring, and on-boarding of new providers within their scope of responsibility. Where applicable, make recommendations regarding medical staff appointments and delineation of clinical privileges within the scope of responsibility.

The Medical Director will prioritize strategies to create a satisfactory work environment for physicians, using survey feedback and other resources, to foster physician engagement and retention. Work to understand and resolve issues impacting physician satisfaction and retention.

Works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, quality department, as well as, The Department Chiefs/Department and Service Line Medical Directors and physicians in their scope of responsibility to develop quality goals and quality dashboards. Participates in ongoing process improvement activities that support improved clinical quality. Ensures compliance with Joint Commission and/or other regulatory agency mandated requirements. Actively participates in resolution of compliance issues.

Works collaboratively with management, other physician leaders and Quality Department staff in identification and resolution of all patient complaints and risk management issues.

Works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, The Department Chiefs/Department and Service Line Medical Directors and physicians in their scope of responsibility to improve operational efficiencies and help manage cost of care delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • A minimum of 7 years of clinical experience post fellowship
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven track record (formal or informal) of leading with influence to impact behaviors and results

Preferred:

Previous formal leadership experience

Certificate or Master's Degree in leadership, health administration or business administration
