Position Summary:
The Technician II – Paint Specialist plays a critical role in the reconditioning and refurbishment of Genie construction equipment, with a primary focus on industrial painting. This includes surface preparation, priming, masking, mixing, and application of industrial coatings using spray equipment. The technician ensures a high-quality finish that meets durability and aesthetic standards. Secondary responsibilities include light mechanical assembly, disassembly, and general support of reconditioning operations as needed.
What You Will Do:
- Perform all phases of industrial painting on heavy construction equipment and components, including:
- Surface preparation (e.g., degreasing, sanding, blasting, masking)
- Mixing and thinning primers and topcoats to manufacturer specifications
- Applying coatings using HVLP or other spray systems in a booth or controlled environment
- Inspecting finished surfaces for consistency, coverage, and quality defects
- Maintain and clean painting equipment, spray guns, and paint booth to ensure optimal performance and safety
- Read and interpret work orders, paint specifications, and safety data sheets
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate painting in line with production schedules
- Assist in the movement of equipment and parts to/from the paint booth.
- Support light mechanical duties as needed including minor disassembly/reassembly or masking of components
- Follow safety protocols including the use of PPE, ventilation systems, and proper handling of hazardous materials
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in industrial or automotive painting, preferably involving large equipment or machinery.
- Familiarity with HVLP spray guns, mixing ratios, surface prep techniques, and booth operations.
- Knowledge of safety practices when working with industrial coatings and chemicals.
- Ability to operate forklifts or material handling equipment preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to support light repair and assembly tasks when required.
