The Senior Software Engineer role provides an opportunity for experienced software development professionals to be part of a fast growing and successful software manufacturer in the Wealth Management environment. The role entails development of new applications and maintenance of existing systems. The Senior Software Engineer will undertake many roles across the organisation including but not limited to new client projects, production support and improvements to the supporting tools used by the development community.

The Senior Software Engineer role is a key part of the development organisation with a potential career path to Technical Lead, Senior Technical Lead, Principal Technical Lead and Architecture streams as individuals gain experience in the Bluedoor system.

Role Responsibilities:
  • As part of a cross-functional delivery team, develop new (or modify existing) product features with minimal guidance from the Technical Leads.
  • Apply Bluedoor coding standards and best practices in the development.
  • Develop, execute and document functional unit testing outcomes for developed software, and automate unit testing by following the development practice guidelines.
  • Assist and guide Testers in the development of functional test cases for developed software.
  • Work with the BA/QA team members as well as internal and external stakeholders to elaborate features and user stories.
  • Perform analysis and investigation tasks as required.
  • Create detailed designs with minimal guidance from the Technical Leads.
  • Monitor effort expended against assigned activity and regular update both the effort expended and the estimate to complete a task. Continuously improve the time taken to completion by introducing innovations and efficiencies.
  • Attend, organise and contribute to all cross-functional team activities, including but not limited to team planning, demonstrations, retrospectives.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Commercial .Net development experience in a complex application environment with significant parallel development in progress.
  • MS SQL Server experience is essential.
  • Proficient in all pillars of the .Net development environment, and preferable to be a full stack software engineer.
  • Capable of debugging complex Production code.
  • Capable of articulating workarounds for immediate Production fixes.
  • Capable of applying a pragmatic approach to development undertakings.
  • Being expert in nominated fields of technical specialisation.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
Prior knowledge and skills:
  • Strong experience with TFS and Visual Studio products.
  • Have extensive coding, testing and documentation experience.
  • Experience in creating complex functions, scripts, stored procedures and triggers to support application development.
  • Experience in analysing existing SQL queries for performance improvements.
  • Knowledge of financial & investment products including Superannuation, Unit Trust and Pension products is desirable.
  • Experience working in a geographically distributed team environment.
