The DCF Disability Determination Services Division (DDS) has an opening for a team-oriented Disability Determination Specialist.

 

The DDS division determines medical eligibility for Vermonters who apply for disability benefits under the Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Medicaid programs. This position performs administrative and fiscal support activities for the division. This position performs at the entry level, all technical case processing and support activities, including receipting evidence, vendor and claimant correspondence, verifying incoming reports and evidence, and authorizing payments. Work involves interactions with other divisional staff and external agencies. There is direct supervision and training for this position, moderating as knowledge and expertise develop.

 

The main duties for this position fall in the following categories: 1) Medical invoice payment authorization, 2) Invoice follow-up, 3) Invoice look-up and research, 4) Vendor supplier adds and updates in the Sate's accounting system (VISION), 5) Fiscal correspondence.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed predominantly in an office setting. Private means of travel should be available for occasional travel when appropriate. Incumbents must be adaptable to frequent changes, and able to work extremely accurately and quickly under tight time limits.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience providing administrative support to a business or organization.

OR

Associate's degree or higher in accounting, business or public administration, office administration or closely related field.  

Special Requirements

All candidates must pass applicable State background checks in accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, State of Vermont tax compliance and criminal record checks, and Federal requirements for all DDS employees, including fingerprinting for FBI clearance and a Federal Public Trust background investigation.
