Description

Overview

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VT DEC) is launching a new permit center in January 2027, and we're looking for two (2) motivated professionals to join the team. (To be eligible for both openings, please also apply to the same titled job at requisiton 55983.)

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a brand-new team dedicated to improving how Vermonters navigate environmental permitting. You'll play a key role in creating a streamlined, centralized "front door" to DEC's permitting process to help project developers, property owners, and the public understand what permits are required through clear, timely, binding jurisdictional determinations.

As staffing and expertise grows, this service will evolve. Early on, you'll collaborate closely with DEC programs as we create processes, establish standards, and shape an improved system that improves consistency and accessibility across the Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the central point of contact for DEC's permitting process
  • Review project information and determine which environmental permits are required
  • Communicate with applicants and the public for project intake, clarification, and follow-up
  • Coordinate closely with DEC program staff to ensure accurate permit guidance and alignment on jurisdictional considerations

Our ideal candidate is:

  • Self motivated, patient, and comfortable working in a new and evolving environment
  • An excellent communicator - both written and verbal
  • Highly organized and able to juggle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Effective at working independently while also collaborating with colleagues across DEC and the Agency

If you're excited by problem solving, enjoy helping people navigate complex information, and want to contribute to an important new public service for Vermont, we'd love for you to apply.

These positions are limited service with the plan to renew current end dates into the future. This opening is funded through 6/30/2029.
