Overview
The DCF Business Office is looking for a new member to join our Accounts Receivable and Account Payable team. This position is based in Waterbury and will work three days in office, with two teleworking remotely.
The Financial Specialist's primary focus will be on processing the daily receivables and daily payables along with managing mobile phones for the whole department, various administrative functions for the business office, supplier maintenance, processing mail, and scanning and indexing of documents. This position requires a large volume of data entry and can be highly repetitive at times. The Specialist will be working in the State accounting system VISION, DCF database ACCESS, OnBase, Adobe, and Excel. Knowledge of all these programs is a plus but not required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities that will make a person successful in this position:
- Basic knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping practices
- Basic knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of administrative practices
- Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy
- Ability to develop checkpoints to maintain over-all integrity of the financial system
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Working independently and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Environmental FactorsWork is performed in a standard office setting.
Minimum QualificationsTwo years or more full-time college coursework in accounting, business administration, office administration or a related field.
OR
Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, office administration or a related field.
OR
Completion of a vocational/technical training program in business, office administration, financial support or related area AND one (1) year or more of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or clerical work involving accounting or financial records.
OR
High School diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years or more of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or clerical work involving accounting or financial records.
OR
One (1) year or more of experience as a Financial Specialist I with the State of Vermont.
Special RequirementsFor some positions experience working with the VISION system (VISION is the State of Vermont PeopleSoft financial management system) may be required.
