Overview

Want to spend your summer working outside at some of Vermont's best swimming holes and waterfalls?  The Vermont Dept of Forests Parks and Recreation is recruiting for a seasonal Recreation Ranger to staff key recreational sites in Windsor and Windham counties. Responsibilities will center around managing visitors at sites with limited capacity and sensitive natural resources with potential opportunities to work on a variety of recreation and visitor use management projects throughout the district. Must have driver's license.

Who May Apply

This position, Recreation Ranger - Temporary (Job Requisition #52144), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed outdoors in all types of weather. Members must demonstrate the following:
•    Lift heavy items, at times up to 50 lbs.
•    Ability to work outside for up 8 hours at a time in all weather conditions. 
•    Ability to hike over varying and steep terrain both on and off trail.
•    Ability to work during peak periods of use, including at least 10 hours on most weekends. 

Minimum Qualifications

•    Education: High school diploma with field experience. Bachelor's degree in natural resource management, environmental sciences, recreation management and administration, park management and administration, engineering or related field preferred. 
•    Experience: Three years of progressive experience in trail and/or park management, development, construction, and maintenance within the State of Vermont or equivalent governmental agency or non-profit. A valid driver's license is required for travel to work sites.
•    Certificates: Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder. Chainsaw training either Game of Logging Level 1-3 or Forest Service Chainsaw training (S212). (FPR may be able to provide these trainings if needed depending on available funding). 
•    Note: Additional course work in parks, recreation, leisure facilities management, natural resources management, or a related field may be substituted for the experience on a semester for six months basis.
