Who We Are:
The Economic Services Division (ESD) is responsible for the administration of benefits to help Vermonters meet their basic needs. ESD is one of 5 divisions under the Department for Children and Families (DCF) which is one of the largest departments (1000 employees) within the largest agency (Agency of Human Services) in the state of Vermont.  ESD Leadership recognizes that the division's biggest resource is our staff and is committed to continuously looking at ways to strengthen and support our workforce.  This position is located in the Morrisville district office, which is known for teamwork, camaraderie, providing excellent services to customers.

 

The Role:
The Senior Benefits Programs Specialist (Senior BPS) is a critical component of the organizational structure that supports the delivery of excellent customer service and provides valuable guidance, support, and training to a team of Benefits Programs Specialists. This position is the first line responder and the primary subject matter expert of all aspects of the programs administered by the Economic Services Division. It is the Senior BPS' responsibility to ensure that their team has the knowledge and tools needed to effectively perform their jobs. Support is accomplished through a variety of coaching and training methods on topics such as customer service skills, eligibility determination, policy, business processes, and system utilization. Work is performed under the supervision of an Economic Services Supervisor.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a standard office setting during standard State office times. Some travel may be necessary, for which private transportation must be available when a State Fleet vehicle is unavailable. Stressful interactions with upset or emotional customers, over the phone and in person, will occur. Staff workload may be heavy at varying times. Occasionally, work outside of typical business hours may be expected.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) or more years as a Benefits Programs Specialist, Benefits Programs Specialist Trainee, VHC Support Services Specialist, or Benefits Program Mentor.
