Overview

Come work in a dynamic and engaging environment as a Doorkeeper at Vermont's State House in Montpelier, Vermont! This role is responsible for assessing and maintaining order while the Vermont General Assembly is in session.

Description

This is an hourly, seasonal position, without benefits. In-person work is required at the State House from January through May 2027. The Doorkeepers work up to 40 hours per week, with the option for part-time opportunities covering either a morning or afternoon shift. This position may require late-night and early-morning coverage, as needed. Required training will take place through November and December 2026, with flexible timing depending on individual needs or schedule. This position requires the successful completion of a pre-employment record check.

Required Education/Experience:

Required:  

  • Minimum of one year of college coursework or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of related work experience

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree, or related working experience in the legislature.
  • 5+ years of teaching experience or certified law enforcement experience.
Required Proficiencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including a willingness to interface with all legislators, staff, and members of the public.
  • Ability to remain nonpartisan in a political environment.
  • Adept at working effectively both independently and as a team member in an environment that is fast paced and demanding.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule including working extended hours.
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy environment.
  • Must be able to remain in a standing position up to 60% of the time.
  • Able to ambulate stairs in an emergency situation.
