Overview
The Vermont Department of Economic Development is seeking a Work Force Training Program Director. The position involves meeting with top-level professionals in business, higher education, training and service providers to determine training and education needs of the labor force in general and the skills needed by the employers. You'll be responsible for the administration of the Vermont Training Program and, in addition, the overall coordination and support of workforce development policies and programs throughout Vermont. This program awards funds to help Vermont businesses to up-skill their workforce.
The successful candidate will have a basic knowledge of economic and business concepts. They will also understand the Vermont labor ecosystem as well as the rules, regulations and guidelines regulating the labor market. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal messaging. The position will require some public speaking in both small and large group settings. A candidate should also have experience managing grant programs. This will include strong skills in the Microsoft Office suite as well as with CRM and grants management applications.
Duties involve considerable in-state travel to meet with businesses, partner organizations, industry groups and others. The position may require attendance at evening meetings. The position will also participate in special economic development projects as required by the commissioner, agency secretary, or their designees, and will perform other related duties as required. This is a full-time permanent position.

Duties involve considerable travel (in-state) and some evening meetings with businesses, development groups, public officials and business organizations. A valid driver's license and automobile or access to private means of transportation is required. Considerable human relations skills are needed. Public speaking is required.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree AND five (5) years at a professional level in community or economic development, including one year involving packaging of public or private sector financing resources, or equivalent experience in business or as a consultant in business or banking.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in planning, public or business administration, or economics.
