Description

The Risk Trader continually generates consistent positive revenue by buying or selling debt products at favorable prices so as to be able to buy or sell these same debt products to ultimate retail (Private Wealth Management) customers, through a Financial Advisor, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and firm policies. Trading is almost exclusively customer-based as opposed to proprietary trading. The trader establishes the bid and offer prices for customer inquiry, managing risk associated with the long and short position, managing P/L associated with the aggregate position and marking-to-market the position each day.

What We're Looking For

• Responsible for making securities available for sale to Stifel clients through the marketing and offering of those products through Stifel Advisors. This also includes bidding on securities for those clients looking to liquidate securities. May be required to use the firm's capital to buy and sell securities using assigned inventories.
• Expertise in their product area and can act on their own to deal directly with Advisors, other dealers, and trading platforms to either commit firm capital in risk trading or determine which offerings to show on our trading platforms where risk is not necessary. Has the ability to act independently in their designated product area, but in conjunction with the objectives set out by the Managing Director/Head Trader in the particular product area. Responsible for hedging their inventory risk-this is often done in conjunction with the Managing Director/Head Trader in the product area.
• Reports directly to the Managing Director/Head Trader in their assigned product area. Work within the Inventory Limits set by the Senior Managing Director and Managing Directors in each inventory number.
• Abide by all trading rules such as aging limits, fair value, mark-up/mark-down, PMP, and fair representation of the benefits and risks associated with all marketed securities. Besides the Policies and Procedures of Stifel, should be completely aware of and in compliance with all FINRA, TRACE, MSRB, SEC, and state and federal laws as they relate to the securities industry and the products they trade.
• Will be aware of and report suspicious trading activity that may be a violation of rules, policies, or procedures directly to their Managing Director/Head Trader. Responsible for the accuracy of every trade they do and make appropriate corrections when necessary.
• Responsible for marketing their products in a fair and reasonable basis that is never misleading. The number one responsibility of a Risk Trader is to service the needs of Stifel's Financial Advisors as they help their clients meet their investment objectives.

What You'll Bring

• Must have a complete understanding of the capital markets, with a deep understanding of the products they trade.
• Must be able to "make 2-sided markets" in their product area with complete confidence that they know their markets are accurate.
• Must also be able to operate in a very competitive market place where a missed price trade could result in thousands of dollars of losses.
• Must be able to manage their inventory and not lose money in the process. It is actually expected that a good trader can take money out of the market place(other dealers) and make trading profits for the firm.
• Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
