Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) of More Than a Phone will provide visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to advance the mission and sustainability of the organization. As the chief executive, the ED will have primary responsibility for fundraising and development, program execution, financial management, and community engagement. This role is particularly focused on development and growth—leading efforts to secure financial resources, increase visibility, and expand the organization's impact.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of nonprofit fundraising, relationship-building, and organizational development. They will be skilled at leveraging their network and experience to secure corporate sponsorships, individual donations and grants to fuel the organization's growth.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Strategic Vision
    • Develop the organization's strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Directors, ensure the plan includes clear metrics for success for implementation with the team.
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture that prioritizes integrity, transparency, and accountability.

    • Ensure that all staff, volunteers, and stakeholders are aligned with the mission and values of the organization.
2.  External Relations and Community Engagement
    • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing More Than a Phone in public forums, media appearances, and with key stakeholders.
    • Build strategic partnerships with community organizations, government entities, educational institutions, and corporate partners to amplify the organization's reach and impact.
    • Enhance the organization's visibility and impact through targeted outreach, social media and marketing, and public relations efforts, ensuring that More Than a Phone remains a trusted resource for providing free, safe smartphones to survivors in need.
3.  Board and Staff Development
    • Support and guide the Board of Directors in governance and strategic decision- making.
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to a talented staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Support the professional development of staff and volunteers, helping them to reach their full potential and contribute effectively to the organization's mission.
    • Manage cadence and compliance with Board of Director meetings and bylaws.
4.  Fundraising and Development
    • Oversee fundraising efforts and guide the development team in identifying and securing diverse revenue streams, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, government grants, and foundation support, while establishing clear KPIs to measure progress and achieve goals.
    • Establish KPIs to ensure the cultivation and maintenance of strong relationships with key donors, foundations, corporations, and other stakeholders, securing ongoing financial support for programs and operations.
    • Develop grant processes and procedures to ensure a positive return on investment (ROI) for More Than a Phone.

    • Strategically plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns to engage donors, key stakeholders, and the broader community, fostering meaningful connections and driving sustained financial support.
    • Enhance and implement a donor stewardship program that meaningfully acknowledges contributions and strengthens long-term relationships with supporters.
5.  Program Development and Impact
    • Oversee the implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that fulfill the organization's mission and goals with program director.
    • Ensure programs are responsive to the needs of the community and align with the strategic priorities of the organization.
    • Monitor and assess program outcomes to ensure high impact and effectiveness, using data and feedback to continuously improve services.
6.  Financial Management and Operations
    • Lead the organization's financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring adherence to financial policies.
    • Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure proper oversight of financial reports, audits, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Develop and manage a sustainable business model, ensuring the long-term financial health of the organization.
    • Support the professional development of staff and volunteers, helping them to reach their full potential and contribute effectively to the organization's mission.
    • Manage cadence and compliance with Board of Director meetings and bylaws.
Qualifications
    • Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, business administration, social work).
    • Experience:
      • Minimum 7-10 years of senior management experience, with a significant focus on fundraising and development in the nonprofit sector.
      • Proven success in securing major gifts, grants, and sponsorships.

      • Strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams and managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
      • Experience working with a Board of Directors, ideally in a nonprofit context.
·        Skills & Abilities:
      • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse groups of people.
      • High level of comfort in representing the organization to external stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and community leaders.
      • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial planning, and reporting.
      • Proficiency with donor management software, fundraising platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite (experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce is a plus).
      • Ability to think strategically and make data-informed decisions.

Work Environment
    • Hybrid Schedule: Requires three days in-office (Fishers, Indiana) and two days remote. Work is typically performed in an office setting.
    • Flexibility: Must be able to adjust the schedule to accommodate travel, fundraising events, or other business-related needs.
    • Hours: Typical business hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and can vary based on business needs.

Travel Requirements

 

    • Travel Expectations: Up to 30% travel, including overnight stays, to participate in sales rallies, franchisee conventions, fundraising events, and other company initiatives nationwide.
