The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Biological Field Lead to support a post-construction fatality monitoring program at an operational wind facility near Olympia, Washington. This position will average 30–40 hours per week for 12 months (November 2025 – October 2026), with the potential to support additional projects locally upon completion.
The role includes conducting fatality searches, implementing bias trials, and adhering to standardized protocols. Candidates must be prepared for full field days, frequent travel to the study site, and working in variable outdoor conditions. A vehicle will be provided for work-related travel; a housing stipend may be available under certain circumstances.

Your Role:
- Implement post-construction fatality monitoring program, including fatality searches and bias trials.
- Oversee daily field efforts, survey schedules, and field data collection.
- Collect precise and thorough data using electronic tablets.
- Communicate and coordinate with team members, supervisors, and site management.
- Follow all wind facility-specific and Tetra Tech safety protocols.
- Provide own suitable field gear, including reinforced-toed hiking boots and weather-appropriate clothing.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or a related field preferred (not required).
- Experience with transect-based research preferred.
- Strong identification skills for regional bird and bat species.
- Prior fieldwork experience required.
- Ability to walk up to 8–10 miles per day in varying terrain and weather.
- Ability to handle exposure to weather extremes and interaction with bird and bat carcasses.
- Skilled use of topographic maps, GPS units, and field equipment.
- Experience operating 4x4 vehicles; valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
- Ability to work independently or in small crews while maintaining positive communication with supervisors and site teams.
- Must be detail-oriented, follow protocols, and meet data submission deadlines.
- Pre-employment drug screening required.
- Candidates residing near Olympia, WA, or willing to relocate, are preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Ability to bend, kneel, stand, lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Comfort working outdoors in varying terrain and changing weather conditions.
- Walking requirements up to 10 miles per day.

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $22.00 – $28.00/hour
