The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Civil Engineer, PE to work in our East Lansing or Ann Arbor, MI offices. The successful candidate will lead an engineering team in our civil and water/wastewater design groups. These groups provide design engineering and construction management services for surrounding municipalities in Michigan and other locations across the U.S. Typical projects include a wide variety of municipal and private projects, including water and wastewater treatment, stormwater, grading, sewer, water analysis, and evaluation of regulations.

Position Summary:
As a Civil Engineer, PE, you will lead multidisciplinary teams on design and construction projects that improve public and private infrastructure systems. This position offers the opportunity to manage complex water, wastewater, and stormwater projects while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with clients and stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Perform conceptual and detailed design and hydraulic calculations and analyses.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documents.
  • Ensure standard engineering practices and inclusion of appropriate documentation on all reports and design projects.
  • Provide engineering interpretation of specifications and drawings, recommend and document design modifications, and coordinate with project teams.
  • Review submittals from contractors for conformance with engineering specifications and drawings; respond to requests for information.
  • Serve as resident engineer during construction to ensure contract design and specifications are followed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • 5+ years of experience in planning and designing water/wastewater treatment, distribution/conveyance, pumping, and storage facilities.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel and Word, and scheduling programs.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically (approximately 15% or more).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing small to mid-size design teams or serving as task lead on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Familiarity with state and federal design and permitting requirements for municipal infrastructure.
  • Strong client communication and project coordination skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying outdoor conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and perform light to moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of standard office and field equipment.    

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Combination of office and fieldwork, including exposure to variable weather conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels and occasional work near active construction sites.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

     

Additional Information:

  • Full-time position based in East Lansing or Ann Arbor, MI.
  • Some regional travel may be required for project meetings and site visits.
  • Hybrid work flexibility may be available based on project needs.
