The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is seeking an Environmental Scientist / Asbestos Inspector within our Philadelphia, PA field office. This position is tied to our Northeast Operations unit. In this role, you will assist a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to oversee the real time collection of asbestos field data at sites throughout the City of Philadelphia.

Your Role

This position requires field and office activities for oversight and quality control of asbestos inspections and environmental projects primarily at project sites in the City of Philadelphia.

The field requirements will include working second shift (primarily 3 to 11 PM EDT).  Depending on the client's schedule, sporadic day shifts may be available.

Office duties will include job safety analysis, data evaluation, and reporting. Tasks associated with reporting may include the preparation of text, tables, charts, and figures.

Qualifications

Experience as an environmental field technician/scientist preferred with strong safety awareness as well as organizational and communication skills.  AHERA certification highly desired - must be proficient in identifying and classifying potential and suspect asbestos containing material as well as interpreting floor plans. The applicant would be expected to become proficient in collection of bulk samples for asbestos analysis and managing chains of custody in accordance with industry standards as necessary. Training could be provided for the right candidate with Pennsylvania AHERA inspector and Philadelphia Asbestos Investigator certifications being an immediate goal.

Must be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment while operating with autonomy and integrity.

The successful applicant must be able to pass a Federal Criminal History Background Check, A Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Record Check, and a PA Dept. of Public Welfare Child Abuse History check.  Routine drug testing may be required for access to client locations. Offers to candidates who cannot pass a background check will be rescinded.

This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good standing is required.

Degree / Certifications

Bachelor's of Science degree is preferred, but not required.

Candidates who possess EPA AHERA Inspector and Philadelphia Asbestos Investigator licenses are preferred.

Candidates who have completed an OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER are preferred.

Work Environment

The position's primary work environment is in client facilities during the second shift (i.e. 3pm to 11pm EDT).
