The Program:

Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists' Goal is to: Save lives, alleviate suffering, and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of conflict, disasters and other humanitarian crises, and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations. The program's Objective is: Targeted deployment of humanitarian expertise that meets the priorities and needs of Australia's multilateral, bilateral and civil society partners and advances Australia's international humanitarian priorities.

The Role:

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Emergency GBV Adviser (REGA), the deployee will support both existing and newly established GBV Case Management Task Forces and Working Groups under the GBV AoR in Palestine, Yemen, Sudan, and potentially other countries in the region, in coordination with the country level GBV AoR Coordinators, and UNFPA Technical GBV Program leads. Given the unique challenges each country currently faces in delivering comprehensive GBV Case Management, the deployee's approach will be tailored to the specific needs and context of each setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide coaching to members of the GBV AoR Case Management Task Force / Working Group on GBV Case Management, especially on the delivery of support in complex settings where the existing SOPs are no longer fully applicable
  • Coach and build capacity of Case Management Supervisors, ensuring supervision methods are relevant to the ways of working in each context
  • Maintain solid working relationships: in collaboration with the GBV AoR Coordinators, provide regular and comprehensive updates on the work of the GBV Case Management Task Forces / Working Groups to the National GBV AoR members as well as the coordinators of the country level Protection Cluster, and Child Protection AoRs
  • Establish linkages between the GBV Case Management Task Force / Working Group and the SRH Working Group on the linkages under GBV Case Management
  • Prepare regular progress reports and document lessons learned, and share with the relevant country level GBV AoR Coordinators, the REGA and other units as necessary
  • Contribute as requested and relevant to updates on the progress of the Case Management Task Force. This includes donor reports, UNFPA SitReps and advocacy briefs.

Selection criteria

  • An Advanced University degree in Social work, Social Science, Public Health, or related technical field is required.
  • At least seven (7) years' experience in programming in relevant areas, such as, gender, social work, GBV service provision to GBV survivors (particularly within the health, social services, Police, and/or justice sectors), as well as project development and implementation.
  • Technical experience in the elimination of violence against women and girls.
  • Experience in delivering case management work in complex humanitarian settings.
  • Working experience in MENA / Arab States region will be an asset.
  • Arabic and English is essential.
