The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Industrial Hygiene Scientist in the Los Angeles / Long Beach California area. As an Industrial Hygiene Scientist, you will work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to identify, evaluate, and control potentially hazardous chemical, physical, and biological agents at client sites, including implementing sampling and analysis plans, conducting or supervising field activities, evaluating sample results and measurements and helping prepare written reports.
You may also conduct or manage asbestos inspections, lead paint inspections, abatement oversight, monitoring, and related environmental projects. 2 - 4 years of directly applicable experience are required, along with a college degree in physical sciences, life sciences or engineering. Professional certification (CIH, CSP or equivalent) is preferred. California “Certified Asbestos Consultant” (CAC) preferred for California applicants. This position may have hybrid working opportunities, but the candidate must reside within 100 miles of the reporting office.

Your Role:
This position works under direction to help conduct a wide range of industrial hygiene projects. Specific tasks may include (but are not limited to):
- Implementing sampling and analysis plans, conducting, or managing field activities and using good industrial hygiene exposure assessment practices to evaluate sample results and measurements.
- Evaluating exposures with respect to applicable occupational and non-occupational exposure limits, regulations, standards, and guidelines.
- Proposing controls and corrective measures, based on hierarchy of controls.
- Supporting preparation of authoritative findings, technical reports, and recommendations.
- This position may manage or conduct field and office activities for asbestos or lead paint inspections, abatement oversight, monitoring, and environmental projects.
Qualifications:
- College degree in physical sciences, life sciences or engineering.
- 2 - 4 years of industrial hygiene experience. Advanced degree (MS, MPH, PhD) in relevant field may be substituted for work experience.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and practices used in determining and controlling occupational and environmental health hazards, industrial hygiene monitoring and sample collection procedures and workplace safety and occupational health regulations and professional guidelines.
- Current certifications as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent is desired. Other desirable qualifications include AHERA asbestos certification (Building Inspector, Contractor Supervisor, Management Planner, Project Designer), EPA Lead (Inspector, Risk Assessor, Project Designer) or state equivalent and OSHA HAZWOPER training.
- California Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) preferred for California applicants.
- Applicant must have good communication, organization, and technical writing skills as well as familiarity with the MS Office Suite.
- Applicant must be able to traverse client project site carrying up to 30 lbs. of equipment, over uneven ground, in all weather conditions and must be able to use standard personal protective equipment (PPE) consistent with project-specific health and safety plan (HASP) requirements.
- The field requirements will include up to 25% or more of travel/fieldwork. This position may require occasional night and weekend travel/work.
- A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Target salary range: $50.00 / hour to $70.00 / hour. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
