Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity within our Lakewood, Colorado office as a Principal Mining/Geotechnical Consultant. In this role the successful candidate will work with geologists, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, and other professional engineers and scientists on tailings and heap leach design projects, dam safety reviews, design reviews, and stability assessments for heap leach and tailings facility development and closure. The successful candidate will function as project or program manager, managing technical scope, project schedule and budget and lease with client representatives. This role will also involve mentoring junior and mid-level staff.

Essential Job Functions:
We are seeking an energetic individual interested in pursuing and supporting a variety of challenging projects. The successful candidate will work closely with other subject matter experts to assess and solve complex problems and develop engineering designs. Tasks will include, but won't be limited to:
Provide geotechnical solutions for dams, embankments, and earth structures.
Develop and/or review quality control/assurance specifications and documentation during engineering design projects and during field construction activities.
Conduct field observations, site visits, and exploration programs. Verify that work performed complies with contract requirements.
Provide analysis and design of corrective measures for major geotechnical challenges such as landslides, seepage, foundations, or land subsidence.
Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings and specifications for engineering projects.
Act as subject matter expert in tailings Dam Safety Reviews.
Support tailings facility risk assessments.
Conduct GISTM compliance assessments.
Manage and prepare geotechnical and geologic field investigations, review field investigation boring logs and data and assigning project specific laboratory testing, conduct engineering analyses and design, foundation design, fill placement/ground modification design, seepage evaluation, slope stability and seismic analyses, and prepare, edit, and review geotechnical engineering reports and documents for a variety of applications.
Mentor junior staff members.
Some projects are located at international mine sites, as a result international travel to support these projects may be required.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Graduate of a 4-year accredited university in geology or geotechnical engineering.
>20 years of relevant experience.
PG or PE required.
Proficiency or solid working knowledge of computer modelling software such as GeoStudio, LPile, gINT, and FLAC.
Ability to travel in-state, out-of-state, and internationally and safely perform field work at remote sites required.
A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
MSHA certification preferred.
Spanish speaking is a plus.
PMP desirable.
GISTM governance.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to walk across variable terrain, including uneven ground, in all weather conditions (i.e. rain, snow, sun, cold weather, and hot weather).
Ability to work at a high altitude and within proximity to various field environments that can contain insects, arachnids, reptiles, mammals, plants, etc.
Ability to travel and perform field work/oversight (approx. < 25% of travel required).
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
This position will require the candidate to work in the office regularly with our team for the first 6 months to receive one-on-one training from other staff, form relationships with fellow employees with a range of backgrounds, and more fully and quickly intergrade into our team. After the first 6 months, this position may allow a flexible hybrid work setting and schedule to be worked out with your supervisor. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion.
Occasional field work will include work to be performed outside, as a result may include occasional work in various environmental factors (weather, altitude, terrain, etc.). This can include remaining stationary for long periods of time, walking, lifting, bending, and sitting.
Office work will include prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer.
Additional Information:
Full-time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs.
Work will be performed in an office and field setting.
Target salary range: $140,000 to $160,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
