Position Summary:

The Project Manager – Stormwater Engineer is part of our multidisciplinary team focused on resilient stormwater quality, green infrastructure (GI), and low-impact development (LID) projects across Southern California. This is an engaging, high-impact role leading planning, design, and project development for stormwater and water-quality solutions—working closely with industry leaders on regulatory-compliant designs, construction support, and risk-reduction measures while mentoring junior staff.

Essential Job Functions:

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

  •        Lead the planning, design, and execution of stormwater management projects focused on stormwater quality, GI, and LID.

  •        Manage multidisciplinary teams to prepare feasibility studies, design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.

  •        Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality analyses, linking engineering solutions to regulatory requirements.

  •        Oversee the development of construction drawings, details, specifications, calculations, and estimates of probable construction costs.

  •        Conduct site visits during various project phases to ensure quality and adherence to design specifications.

  •        Engage in strategic marketing efforts, proposal development, and business development activities.

  •        Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering professional growth and maintaining a collaborative team environment.

Required Qualifications:

  •        Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline

  •        Professional Engineer (PE) license in California required.

  •        8+ years of progressive experience in stormwater and water resources design, including feasibility studies and full design projects.

  •        Proficiency in CAD programs (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation) and knowledge of GIS tools.

  •        Experience with MS4 compliance, GI, and LID design, including bioretention basins, bioswales, and constructed wetlands.

  •        Strong understanding of water quality regulations, including TMDLs and NPDES permits.

  •        Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to manage tasks for technically complex projects on time and budget.

  •        Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.

  •        Experience working with municipalities and regulatory agencies in Southern California preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  •        Ability to perform field work including site inspections and surveys as needed. This includes:

     

    o   Occasionally for long periods of time across rock embankments, concrete channels, and other site conditions found during levee inspections, stormwater inspections and other site visits.

     

    o   Occasional heavy lifting (up to 50lbs); the ability apply pressure on levers to open/close vaults and large manholes.

  •       Manual dexterity to use a computer mouse, keyboard, and other design tools.

  •       Visual acuity to read and interpret detailed drawings and technical documents.

  •       Ability to communicate effectively in person and via electronic means.

Additional Information

  •       This position is based in our Irvine, CA office on a hybrid schedule, typically in the office 4 days/week.

  •       Regular travel within the greater Southern CA area for site visits. Infrequent overnight or national/international travel (e.g. typically not beyond once/month).

  •       Infrequent exposure to hazardous environmental factors; typically limited to rainy conditions during site visits.
