Tetra Tech is currently seeking a QA Analyst/Environmental Scientist who can apply their technical expertise to help solve complex environmental risk assessment, technical and policy issues. This position would report to our Fairfax, VA office.

What You'll Do:
We are in search of a highly motivated team member to join our family of scientists and engineers to provide support and expertise in water quality chemistry/environmental chemistry and bioaccumulation for our projects in the areas of quality assurance/quality control, water quality standards, environmental policy, Clean Water Act program implementation, nutrient pollution, watershed planning, point source discharge permitting and controls, and nonpoint source pollution assessment and control.
 

In this mid-to-senior level consulting position, you will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge, technical expertise, management skills, and previous work experience to real-world water quality issues, while serving our clients at the federal, state, tribal, local, and private sector clients and mentoring junior staff on the team. Your work will involve routine and non-routine assignments related to water quality projects of substantial variety and complexity. In this position you will be expected to provide technical expertise on complex projects and be given the tools to grow into effectively managing projects.

Your responsibilities will include performing tasks to lead and support environmental projects, including:

  • Providing support in developing quality assurance project plans, quality management plans, sampling and analysis plans, standard operating procedures, and other quality-related documents.
  • Providing detailed recordkeeping and assist with oversight of quality assurance/quality control aspects of projects.
  • Facilitating reviews of data and information synthesized from data sets and journal articles  and documenting these reviews.
  • Applying knowledge of water quality chemistry, environmental chemistry, bioaccumulation, and environmental policy to evaluate bioaccumulation factor and bioconcentration factor data.
  • Conducting literature searches and reviewing technical information from journal articles, federal and state reports, and other sources.
    Synthesizing information utilizing strong technical writing skills to develop written products.
  • Ability to perform validation of analytical data preferred.
  • Developing reports and preparing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Implementing QA/QC policies/procedures to meet federal and state research requirements.
  • Future responsibilities include project and staff management, as well as leading QA oversight for projects.

 

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental chemistry, toxicology, ecology, environmental science and/or engineering field with 7 to 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Professional experience related to water quality chemistry/environmental chemistry, water quality standards, environmental exposure analyses and/or bioaccumulation
  • Knowledge of federal environmental policy including EPA QA policy (QAPPs, SAPs, and SOPs) 
  • Strong technical writing background, with experience in editing
  • Excellent research and verbal communication skills/experience
  • Experience in laboratory analysis of environmental samples and conducting field sampling
  • Experience in conducting literature reviews and synthesizing information
  • Project experience translating science into policy
  • Leader and team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications
  • Able to handle multiple tasks/projects at once
  • Highly dependable, detail-oriented, flexible, and responsive to tight or changing client-driven deadlines
  • Able to interact well with coworkers and existing clients in a professional and confident manner
  • Excitement to work in a dynamic and collaborative work environment
