Program Overview

The Kiribati Australia Infrastructure (Te KAI) Program supports high-quality, climate-resilient, and inclusive infrastructure development in Kiribati. As Safeguarding and Inclusion Specialist, you will play a vital role in embedding Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and safeguarding principles across Te KAI's infrastructure projects and ensuring all staff and contractors understand what it is and their requirements around it.

You will work closely with local organisations, such as Te Toa Matoa, MWYSSA, KWCSC, and Te KAI's technical teams and local contractors to ensure that infrastructure delivery is inclusive, safe, and responsive to the needs of the community.

Your Role

  • Operationalise Te KAI's Inclusion Strategy and Safeguarding frameworks.
  • Coordinate inclusion and safeguarding activities, including training and monitoring the progressions.
  • Facilitate meaningful engagement with communities, women's organisations, and organisations of people with disabilities (OPDs).
  • Support the development of referral pathways and safeguarding mechanisms.
  • Monitor risks and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to ensure inclusive infrastructure.

About You

You are a committed and experienced professional with a passion for inclusive development and safeguarding. You bring technical expertise, strong community engagement skills, and a collaborative approach to working in cross-cultural environments.

You will possess:

  • Experience in gender equality, disability inclusion, social work, community development, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of best practice international development safeguarding policies and local referral pathways.
  • Experience delivering training in gender equality, disability inclusion, child protection, or prevention of sexual exploitation abuse and harassment (desirable).
  • Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commitment to and proven results in working towards gender equality, disability inclusion, child protection, and safeguarding.
