Tetra Tech is searching for an Engineering Technician to support hazardous material/hazardous waste operations for NUWC Division, Keyport, WA. Position will include field work and technical support in data collection, compliance with regulations and policies, evaluation, and reporting.

Responsibilities:  
•    Position will require hazardous material (HAZMAT) coordination to ensure adherence to DoD, state and local rules, regulations, and policies regarding HAZMAT handling, storage, and identification at NUWC Division, Keyport, WA. 
•    Ensure a waste stream is established for all HAZMAT and regularly monitor HAZMAT requirements. 
•    Document and report noncompliance to the Environmental Coordinator. 
•    Coordinate and assist the removal and shipping of IMA hazardous waste to the Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF). 
•    Accumulate, inspect, package, and label wastes created and stored in Depot waste sites. 
•    Perform daily hazardous waste tank inspections. Notify the TSDF and Environmental Coordinator of tank levels and initiate load-out requests. 
•    Perform weekly hazardous waste site inspections for Depot waste sites in accordance with NUWCDIVKPT 5090.11.  
•    Manage shop HAZMAT inventory and air emission records. 
•    Induct shipments of new HAZMAT items into inventory, which includes verifying product legitimacy, labeling requirements, and shelf life. Label HAZMAT per the regulations. 
•    Manage the disposition of HAZMAT inventory through the Regional Hazardous Inventory Control System (RHICS). 
•    Duties of position will include evaluation/interpretation of environmental data, preparation of summary data tables, and report writing. 
•    Other duties may be assigned.

•    Perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., HAZMAT sampling and inspections) that may include lifting equipment (up to ~50 pounds), operating hand tools, and driving vehicles (e.g., pickup trucks). 
•    Solve mechanical problems independently (i.e., needs to be mechanically inclined).
•    Fabricate tools or solutions in the field when challenges arise (i.e., creative mechanical problem solving). 
•    Perform physical work in austere environments (e.g., heat, rain, cold weather).
•    Take detailed, legible, clearly written field notes. 
•    Prepare written technical documents (requires technical writing skills).

Successful candidate must be able to operate Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Adobe Acrobat, Internet Browsers, and similar. 

Education & Experience:  High School diploma or equivalent is required.  Successful candidate must have at least three years' experience conducting HAZMAT field work.

Language & Communication Skills: Candidate must be fluent in the English language, speaking, writing, reading. In addition, successful candidate must be able to prepare written technical documents. 

Mathematical Skills:  Basic math skills are required.
