We are currently looking for Senior Hydrogeologists in Calgary to join our Environment & Water – Geo-environmental team. This position offers the opportunity to work with a team of experienced geologists, engineers and scientists. The focus of the position will be to provide hydrogeological consulting services to a variety of clients (mining, oil and gas and government) throughout Western and Northern Canada.

 

 

The successful candidate will work on a variety of hydrogeological projects including developing and implementing groundwater investigations; water well design and installation; aquifer testing (slug, step and pump testing and data analysis); baseline hydrogeological studies; development of conceptual site models; risk assessment and risk management projects; groundwater dewatering studies. The candidate must be highly motivated; customer focused and work well in a team environment. The successful candidate will need to manage a dynamic workload and occasional travel may be required.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design field investigation programs, collect and analyze field data, communicate and coordinate with both clients and contractors.
  • Oversee and provide technical guidance related to borehole drilling and logging, well installation, and maintenance of groundwater wells, hydraulic well testing, and surface and groundwater sampling.
  • Prepare and review technical reports.
  • Build the business through proposal writing and industry contacts.
  • Assist in managing work schedules, controlling budgets working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate staff.

 

 

 Qualifications:

  • 10+ years professional experience related to hydrogeology.
  • Consulting experience preferred.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or geosciences (Master's degree is preferred).
  • Registered as a member of with EGBC or APEGA (P.Eng., P.Geo.).
  • Familiarity with provincial regulations, combined with a willingness and aptitude for project management and business development.
  • Strong work experience on field-based investigations in physical hydrogeology, groundwater supply, and hydrogeological assessments.
  • Demonstrated competency in soil and rock sampling and geotechnical soil and core logging, drilling, test pitting, well installations, water quality sampling and hydraulic response tests (e.g. slug, pumping, and packer testing).
  • Groundwater analysis using AquiferTest or AQTESOLV.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) combined with willingness to work as part of a group.
  • Occasional travel may be required in this position, and candidates must be prepared to undertake site visits.
  • Desire to mentor team members in the office and field.
  • Experience with numerical modeling using Modflow and FeFlow will be considered as an asset.
  • Experience in designing groundwater supply projects including installation of water supply and observation wells and execution of aquifer testing programs as per the regulatory requirements for obtaining groundwater diversion licenses for clients.
