As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will work closely with national industry leaders and local experts as part of the WTR Business Unit to support clients with infrastructure design for water resource related projects. This position offers the right professional a great opportunity to support a multi-disciplinary team that delivers complex water projects with innovative structural, mechanical and electrical features. This position is allocated to our Seattle office but is open to candidates working remotely in the state of Iowa. 

Upcoming projects include:

  • Design of new and existing structural features such as lock walls, guide walls, and gates as part of the U.S. Inland Waterway Navigation System.
  • Design of dams and levees nationwide, including dam and levee safety inspections, retrofit and removal design services, fish passage, and new infrastructure design.

More About This Role

  • Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of complex, multi-discipline infrastructure projects involving civil works structures (flood protection, navigation locks, dam structures), waterfront structures, pump stations, and other infrastructure.
  • Ensure technical quality management by reviewing design calculations, structural analysis, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop innovative design solutions and ensure adherence to project specifications and client requirements.
  • Provide direction, oversight, and mentorship to junior staff, enhancing their technical skills and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Coordinate and communicate design solutions with clients and other engineering disciplines through presentations, reports, studies, and design review meetings.
  • Deliver services in compliance with all health and safety requirements, ensuring that all technical aspects meet safety standards and regulations.
  • Understand and manage engineering risk, legal considerations, and technical quality management throughout the design process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • 20+ years of relevant technical experience in structural engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) certification (Required). PMP certification or other formal training preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful technical design and delivery in structural engineering projects.
  • Experience using complex FEA/structural analysis software programs (such as SAP2000, ANSYS, CSIBridge, and/or LPILE).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, document management tools such as ProjectWise/Dr Checks, and other software for technical documentation and design review.
  • Demonstrated educational and relevant work experience showcasing strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of working both independently and in a team environment, both in-person and virtually.
  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and motivate technical staff.
  • Proficient in prioritizing multiple tasks and making independent decisions that align with company goals and objectives.
  • Experience with USACE or other federal or local government agencies is preferred.
