Our Louisville, Kentucky and Ann Arbor, Michigan locations are seeking a full or part-time Structural Engineering Intern to assist with projects of various construction types in a wide range of industry sectors.  These Intern positions provide the opportunity to obtain experience that will further your education and/or career interests in architectural and structural engineering consulting. The Intern will assist the structural engineering staff on various types of projects including: Department of Defense, commercial, education, civil works, water, wastewater, stormwater, utilities, forensic, historic renovation, and other municipal projects.

The Intern candidate must be enrolled in an ABET Accredited 4-year degree program focused around Civil/Structural Engineering or be a recent graduate from such a program. Certificate for Engineer-in-Training (NCEES FE Exam) preferred. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn and expand skill set, is detail oriented, and has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Your Role:

  • Assist structural engineers on a multitude of projects
  • Prepare design calculations of structural systems
  • Collaborate with writing forensic and investigation reports
  • Define structural systems by modeling in Revit and Risa 3D
  • Utilize Revit 3D to produce structural plans and details
  • Become familiar with local and state codes, as well as Federal Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in second, third, or fourth year of Civil Engineering Degree, with Structural focus
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience, preferred
  • Ability to obtain EIT Certification in the near future
  • Valid Driver's License with and acceptable driving record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Articulate and concise use of written and verbal English language communications
  • Must be a self-starter capable of handling solo projects as well as working well with a team/group
  • Understand Mathcad, and other engineering software/structural engineering software tools, to produce calculations as part of design and analysis tasks.
  • Participate in Construction Administration activities by reviewing shop drawings and submittal
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit Structure, preferred
  • Position requires periodic travel, approximately 5%
