Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAP)

The Mekong-Australia Partnership (MAP) Phase 2 Support Unit (SU) aims to deliver effective support and services directed by the Mekong Hub at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. Its goal is to establish Australia as a trusted partner in fostering a resilient and sustainable Mekong subregion. The Support Unit will implement the Leadership and Skills program, offering access to Australia Awards-MAP (AA-MAP) scholarships, short courses, and training, while also providing administrative and logistical support for various MAP activities. A key component of the program includes a selection process for scholarships, following the Australia Awards Scholarship Policy Handbook.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and coordination of resources for the Leadership and Skills program. Ensure successful activities and quality outcomes across all MAP thematic areas.
  • Advise DFAT's Mekong Hub on effective education and training options. This includes scholarships and short courses, aligned with DFAT's priorities.
  • Develop and deliver the MAP Leadership and Skills Annual Work Plan. Create Progress and Annual Reports as annexes to the MAP Support Unit deliverables.
  • Manage the Leadership and Skills budget and report on it regularly. Provide budget forecasts and work closely with the finance team to address risks and ensure compliance.
  • Lead a high-performing Leadership and Skills team, fostering a positive and collaborative culture while working with DFAT's priorities.
  • Provide team members with opportunities for development and targeted training to enhance their skills and experience.
  • Keep the Leadership and Skills risk register updated and reviewed quarterly, incorporating insights from team members and stakeholders. Report risks in line with DFAT policies.
  • Ensure engagement of key specialists in MEL and GEDSI through shared services and the Technical Assistance Panel to address cross-cutting priorities.

Selection criteria

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in development, program management, education or another relevant field is essential.
  • Extensive experience in managing and implementing donor-funded programs, particularly in education, skills, and capacity development, including DFAT-funded initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across various cultures, both in-person and remotely.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationships management skills.
  • Knowledge of the Australia Awards Scholarships program policy and context is highly desirable.
  • Possess a strong performing and learning orientation, excellent interpersonal skills for building trust, attention to detail, critical thinking, adaptability and strong writing abilities.
  • Skilled in navigating and operating sensitively within culturally diverse contexts while demonstrating cultural awareness.
