The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Wetland Biologist / Field Lead based in Bloomington, MN.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will help support our large renewable energy development projects in the upper Midwest. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a variety of our natural resource projects, with a primary focus on leading a field team to perform wetland delineations. A multidisciplinary science-based background and prior field experience of a similar nature is desired.
Your Role
The selected candidate will:
Perform duties as Field Team Lead for wetland delineations in accordance with current USACE 1987 Manual and Regional Supplement(s).
Perform natural resource surveys (e.g., wetlands, streams, vegetation).
Collect GPS data.
Perform and oversee data entry, data analysis, and report writing.
Field components may require long hours and/or be physically demanding and may require being on foot 10–12 hours per day carrying equipment.
Support local, state and federal project permitting.
Potential to assist or perform other natural resource surveys (e.g., habitat, functional assessments, aquatic resources, RTE species, and invasive species).

Potential to assist with other environmental due diligence and compliance tasks (e.g., Phase I ESA and Critical Issues Analysis).

Qualifications
Minimum of 1-3 years of environmental consulting or relevant experience.
Minimum 1 year of experience leading wetland delineation teams.
Experience with local, state and federal project permitting is not required, but would be beneficial.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
This position requires preparation of technical environmental reports and strong technical writing skills are required. Providing a writing sample for review may be requested.
Highly motivated, client focused, work well in a team environment, work well under pressure, and adapt to changing workloads.
Excellent client interaction and organizational skills.
Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word and Excel, required.
Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and/or experience with ESRI Survey123 and Field Maps preferred.
Project management experience preferred.
Degree / Certifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Soil Science, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related degree.
- Wetland delineation certification (MWPCP or PWS) preferred.
Work Environment
This position typically requires less than 25% travel but may be as much as 50-75% travel during the fall. The work environment will consist of a mix of office and field work, with some field work requiring overnight stays and work on weekends. Field activities will take place in a variety of weather conditions and can occur in any season, working in rural or remote locations with uneven terrain.
The work will also include:
- Local and out-of-state travel for field surveys.
- For small projects, travel requirements may include day-long projects that do not require overnight stays.
- For larger projects, extended travel of 5 to 10 days is typical but can be up to 14 days.
- Office work when not traveling is typically on-site with some opportunities for remote work.
You must be able to:
- Walk around project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 25 pounds of equipment such as GPS antenna, tablet, and shovel or soil probe during field work.
- Drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

The Salary Range for this position is $55,000 - $75,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
