The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Wildlife Field Technician working as an Eagle fatality monitor near Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Field work includes working on average of 35 - 40 hours over a two-week period. This is a minimum of a six-month project which would need a commitment for that full time period. Opportunity for additional work during and following project completion.
The primary responsibility of this position is to implement a post-construction fatality monitoring program at an operational wind facility. The program is inclusive of fatality searches and carcass persistence trials, adhering to standardized protocols as trained and keeping detailed data.
The field work is ongoing and continues through August 2025. Fatality monitoring applicants must be willing to commit to four full field days every two weeks and occasionally one day during the in-between weeks, including travel to and from the field location. Lodging costs will be covered throughout the study period; however, the technician will be responsible for their own housing on off days. Vehicle rental costs will be covered for work related travel and functions of the position.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and range from $20-$25/hour.

Your Role:
· Candidates who have previous field experience with birds, particularly eagles, are preferred, but not required. This project is eagle specific and being able to tell the difference between eagles and hawks/falcons, other birds is necessary.
· Candidates must be able to walk for extend periods of time and be able to effectively handle exposure to weather extremes and interaction with bird carcasses.
· The field technician will work independently and must be able to communicate and coordinate effectively with offsite Tetra Tech supervisors and site management teams.
· The technician will be required to follow all wind facility-specific and Tetra Tech safety protocols and will be expected to provide their own suitable footwear (reinforced-toed hiking boots) and weather appropriate field gear.
· Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
· Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
· Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
· Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology or equivalent degree preferred, but general experience with wildlife may be sufficient.
· Individuals currently seeking degree and/or other enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply.
· Must be able to identify golden and bald eagles, and be able to be trained to identify hawks, falcons, owls, vultures, etc., using protocols provided by managers).
· Must be able to work independently and with others, and interact positively with project managers, clients, and landowners.
· Experience with 4x4 vehicles, valid driver's license and clean driving record.
· Skilled use of topographic maps, GPS units, and other field equipment.
· Must be able to follow instructions from manager and collect precise and thorough data.
· Must be able to work with electronic data collection protocols and data submission timing requirements; and
· Must be skilled with communication, have the ability to maintain positive attitude and to accept guidance and constructive criticism.
· Travel time to the field site will be compensated for up to 6 hours roundtrip.
· Candidates residing within this distance are preferred, but not required.
· The field study site is located between Fort Sumner and House, New Mexico.
· Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
· Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
· Walking requirements are up to 10 miles in a day.
