Summary of Job Duties: **Part-Time Position**The Instructor (APRN) is responsible for providing health supervision exams for infants, children, and adolescents. The Instructor will work in collaborative practice with the Pediatric Otolaryngology physicians, clinic nursing staff and residents, in the inpatient and outpatient settings to help deliver care to this population of infants, children, and adolescents at the ACNW facility. This position will coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate. Independent consultation and billing of inpatient and outpatient consultations will be expected. There will be opportunities for clinical research, based on the applicant's training and interest. The Instructor is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the UAMS Department of Otolaryngology, Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology, and the mission of Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in nursing plus two (2) years of nursing experience required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License.
  • National Certification in Acute Care Pediatrics. 
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines). 
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirements.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of primary and/or acute care pediatric experience.
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained prior to hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Gathers information systematically and skillfully from all sources for both new and established patients:  perinatal and past medical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral, developmental, and psychosocial assessments, differentiating between normal and abnormal variations for all body systems and accurately interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short-term physical, psychological, educational and cultural needs for assigned patient populations.
  • Provides ongoing and follow-up care and patient/family education.
  • Accurately interprets health assessment data and applies findings in directing patient care.
  • Utilizes knowledge and expertise when planning long and short-term care, including appropriate pharmacologic and diagnostic treatments as needed.
  • Documents all health data and plan of care and care according to policy.
  • Evaluates patient/family response to the plan of care through systematic follow-up.
  • Document the patient/family outcomes, reassessing and modifying the plan as needed to achieve health goals.
  • Accurately completes all billing forms, including diagnostic (ICD-9) and treatment (CPT) codes, based on federal and state laws in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with referring physicians, allied health providers and hospital staff as appropriate.
  • May perform other duties may be assigned to this position.
