Summary of Job Duties: The Director of the Nurse Midwifery Education Program, a certified nurse midwife with a graduate nursing degree, is responsible for visionary leadership and oversight of the nurse midwifery specialty within the College of Nursing's Master of Nursing Science Program. This individual reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Accreditation.

The Director of the Nurse Midwifery Education Program participates in the recruitment and selection of qualified students and faculty, leads curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation, sees daily operations of the program, and assures compliance with the Accreditation Commission on Nurse Midwifery Education criteria and the American College of Nursing-Midwifes Standards for the Practice of Midwifery and Competencies for Master's Education in Midwifery.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree OR Doctoral degree in nurse midwifery from an accredited program and institution of higher education. Doctorate in nursing or related field preferred. 

  • Certification as a nurse midwife (CNM) with eligibility for advanced practice licensure in Arkansas. 

  • Teaching experience in a nurse midwifery program.  

  • Experience with development and implementation of nurse midwifery curriculum. 

  • Management/leadership skills; strong interpersonal skills. 

  • Demonstration of scholarship related activities. 

  • Experience with accreditation preferred. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • The ability to think strategically and creatively, excellent communication skills, mentorship of students and faculty, experience in establishing and maintaining academic/clinical partnerships, and leadership role in curriculum design and accreditation. 


Additional Information:

Leadership Responsibilities 

  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Nurse Midwifery Education Program in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Accreditation and faculty.  

  • Direct and participate in the development and implementation of the nurse midwifery curriculum in collaboration with the Graduate Curriculum Committee, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Accreditation, and faculty. 

  • Assist in the development and revision of nurse midwifery program courses and syllabi in accordance with Accreditation Commission on Nurse Midwifery Education criteria and the American College of Nursing-Midwifes Standards for the Practice of Midwifery and Competencies for Master's Education in Midwifery and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's 2021 Essentials. 

  • Provide leadership for the Nurse Midwifery Program's component of the College of Nursing's 5-year strategic plan and budget.  

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Accreditation to develop a systematic evaluation plan to appraise nurse midwifery program outcomes to assure compliance with accreditation standards. 

  • Mentor and lead the nurse midwifery faculty team in the development, implementation and assessment of documentation required for the accreditation process, annual reports and any miscellaneous accreditation reporting required. 

  • Participate in recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention of quality faculty for the Nurse Midwifery Program. 

  • Complete reports required by the college, university, and accrediting agencies. 

 

Teaching and Oversight of Students  

  • In collaboration with the Admissions and Progression Committee and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Accreditation, develop and implement appropriate processes and procedures for admission, enrollment, progression, withdrawal, and advising of nurse midwifery students. 

  • Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation or new student orientation. 

  • In conjunction with college leadership, establish, maintain, and evaluate appropriate clinical sites and preceptors for students' nurse experiential education. 

  • Orient clinical sites and preceptors to foster student achievement. 

  • Contribute to the oversight, workload assignments, and performance evaluation of faculty teaching in the Nurse Midwifery Program.  

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Accreditation, Student Services Office, and department chairs regarding issues pertaining to the Nurse Midwifery Program and courses. 

  • Prepare and teach assigned classes to students and assists with case conferences.  

Faculty Role 

  • Implement the role of faculty member in teaching, practice, and scholarly activities.  

  • Maintain current advanced nursing practice certification and retain APRN license in Arkansas. 

  • Maintain scholarly activities through publications, presentations, and grant submissions.  

  • Represent the College of Nursing at the university, state, regional, and national level.  

  • Support the Nurse Midwifery Program by performing all other duties as assigned; clinical time may not encumber program time. 

  • Other duties as assigned.
