Summary of Job Duties: The IRB Administrator II processes submissions of human subject research studies, manages IRB meetings and IRB reviewer attendance, and supports the overall functioning of the IRB office. This position plays a pivotal role as a primary contact between the research community and the IRB. The incumbent provides advice to researchers, helps researchers navigate the IRB's e-system, handles queries to the office, and ensures queries and studies are routed and processed correctly. This position also participates in some research reviews.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 4 years experience in human subject research, research administration, or office administration.
  • CRS certificate (a UAMS-specific credential) at hire or within 18 months of hire.
  • Special knowledge, abilities and skills:
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Experience with Zoom
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Organization skills required and the ability to lead, teach, and motivate others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Science, research, or Health related background preferred. 
  • Experience with scientific writing and an understanding of the elements of a clinical research protocol. 
  • CRS or equivalent certification preferred at hire.

Additional Information:

  • Coordinates communication between the office staff and researchers as a contact for phone calls and the IRB questions e-mail inbox. Provides assistance to the research community with various aspects of navigating the research system.
  • IRB Meeting Administration – Coordinates reviewer attendance at the IRB meetings and ensures quorum is met. Manages IRB meetings in the electronic IRB system. The IRB Administrator will have sufficient experience to draft notes that describe the IRB's concerns correctly. Assists in recording the official minutes of the IRB meeting, with sufficient detail to meet regulatory, institutional, and accrediting agency requirements. Train other staff members on these processes.
  • Assesses IRB new submissions, modifications, continuing reviews and human subject determinations to determine appropriate prioritization, and routing and follow-up. Assigns study reviews in CLARA, requiring ability to make determinations about appropriate routing. Provides guidance to research community.
  • Review and process IRB submissions as appropriate.
  • Actively pursue professional development opportunities, both internal and external, to maintain current knowledge about regulations, policies, accreditation standards, and best practices related to human subject research and develop and maintain relevant skills, e.g. public speaking. 
  • Propose improvements to office and HRPP processes to better serve the UAMS/AC research community and to support a high-functioning HRPP. Support innovations proposed by others.
  • Other duties as assigned demonstrating initiative, enthusiasm, positive attitude, teamwork, integrity and commitment to the mission of the division and the department by providing assistance and support as needed and where directed.
