Summary of Job Duties: This Research Technician is housed in the Research Division of the Department of Psychiatry and will work closely with the faculty and administration in all of the research programs. Duties include but are not limited to: implement research protocol, recruit participants, conduct research studies, maintain research databases, and maintain human subject approvals under the general direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), and provide other support as needed.
Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED plus two (2) years of performing experiments in a research laboratory required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have excellent computer skills.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite and statistical programs (i.e. SPSS). 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Computer programming experience preferred (i.e., Microsoft Excel macros, Matlab, Psychtoolbox, E-prime, electronic questionnaire/surveys).


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Performs initial contact with prospective research subjects; explains research protocol, consent forms and using a detailed interview questionnaire collects data for research studies.

  • Monitors the information for eligibility for the specific protocol as well as accuracy and completeness prior to examination by the investigators and/or sponsoring agency.  Interviews may be conducted in person, by telephone, or by mail at the research office location. 

  • Schedules potential study patients with appropriate research staff according to requirements of the protocol.

  • Collects, codes and enters study information into a data base; assists in data compilation. 

  • Maintains records and study information, prepares reports and summaries as needed.

  • Ensures that completed interview questionnaires are complete, legible and accurate in accordance with FDA regulations and research protocols. 

  • Makes follow-up contact with participants to obtain missing or questionable data. 

  • Completes case report form books according to protocols. 

  • Designs forms, worksheets and study questionnaires specific to study protocols for evaluation and documentation.

  • Maintains complete and accurate records and files pertaining to one or more research studies. 

  • Maintains detailed records of research subject visits and procedures.

  • Maintains laboratory equipment in good working condition to support research endeavors. Standardizes equipment, test procedures and quality controls. 

  • Collects and processes biological specimens (i.e. saliva, blood). 

  • Performs vital signs (blood pressure and pulse).

  • Attends, actively participates and presents descriptive data in regularly scheduled research team meetings which support the objectives and goals of the specific protocols.  

  • Assists in preparation and submission of grant proposals and reports any problems to the principal investigators.

  • Reviews literature for related research developments and compiles findings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Salary Information:

$31,200 | $15.00/hr.
