Summary of Job Duties: The Senior Director of Research (SRD) for the UAMS College of Public Health (COPH) will provide direction for and oversight of the team of Research Directors who will, in total, provide accounting management for all of the sponsored program activity in the College. The SRD will also report to and work alongside the Assistant Dean for Administration & Finance as the resource for sponsored program finance as it relates to College reporting and for the development of the annual College budget. This position will manage a staff of three as well as provide leadership to the College administrative staff in their day to day fiscal transactions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree plus eight (8) years of experience in finance and administration in a research capacity or 

  • Master's degree plus six (6) years of experience in finance and administration in a research capacity required.

  • Prefer experience in a grants/sponsored program-related group such as OSPAN or as a Dept. Administrator. 

  • Completion of UAMS GMCP program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite of programs. 

  • Basic accounting knowledge. 

  • Experience using Workday financial reporting.

  • ​Knowledge of UAMS Workday transactions, finance reports, and UAMS purchasing/travel procedures preferred.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to 17 of our administrative staff in the College, keeping them up to date on Campus and College policy as it relates to accurate processing of procurement, travel, and invoice payments. 

  • Serve as the cost center manager who reviews all financial transactions in WD for approval by the College. 

  • Manage the College's 33 Endowed and Non-Endowed Foundation accounts and work with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the annual disbursement of student scholarships from 14 of these accounts. 

  • Provide analytics on monthly financial reports that pertain to the College's sponsored program activity for the Assistant Dean for Admin. & Finance.  These reports will ultimately be used in the College's variance reports and to inform the College's annual budget. 

  • Provide direction for and oversight of the research directors in the College, creating a team who will assist the 30+ investigators in the College in the day-to-day management of the College's sponsored programs portfolio.

  • Work in close partnership with the UAMS offices of Sponsored Programs, Grants Accounting, and Contract Administration to obtain the most current processes necessary to ensure regulatory compliance. 

  • Responsible for submitting correct and timely Time and Effort certificates to the Office of Cost Accounting. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
