Camp Details

This camp is for 6-11 years old who will attend a full-week session, and spend each day at Elkus Ranch learning to care for our livestock animals, exploring plants & pollinators in the garden, making crafts, learning about environmental stewardship, weekly cooking activities, and more...

Camp Counselor Work Schedule: Monday to Friday / 8am to 4pm

1 Week of Training and 6 Weeks of Camp Sessions:

  • June 17-21 (training week)
  • June 24-28
  • (No camp the week of July 1-5)
  • July 8-12
  • July 15-19
  • July 22-26
  • July 29-Aug 2
  • Aug 5-9

Position Details

Incumbents (camp counselors) organize, implement and conduct recreational programs, activities and services for a day or residential facility in a recreational establishment, or organized camp.

Incumbents provide instruction in contact sports, ball games, water sports, track and field activities, court games, seasonal sports, martial arts, arts and crafts, camping, hiking, nutrition, health and related nature and cultural studies, and may also perform in dramatic or musical events.

Incumbents perform general maintenance duties related to sanitation of camp grounds, cafeteria hygiene, cabin safety and of assigned equipment.

Experience working with youth is preferred. Must be comfortable working with livestock.

This position is a limited term appointment that is 80% variable.

Pay Scale - By Agreement Rate: $195.00/daily; $975.00/weekly

Under general direction, Camp Counselors perform a variety of individual and group organizing activities typically of a recreational, service or social nature. Camp Counselors are assigned camp maintenance duties such as food service detail, housekeeping tasks, grounds keeping tasks and security duties. Incumbents may make suggestions regarding program structure, budget and procedures modifications. Incumbents are responsible for the maintenance and accountability of equipment and supplies assigned to their specific activity area. Incumbents may supervise other camp counselors, camp aids, volunteers and trainees.

Requirements:

  • Incumbents are expected to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to their station assignments.
  • Must be comfortable working with livestock.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with youth is preferred.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must comply with regulatory agency reporting requirements (California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
  • Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
  • The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
