Position Summary:   The Developmental and Cell Biology department seeks discoveries that foster a better understanding of many biological questions such as the origins of cancer development, cell repair and regrowth, and developmental disorders.
  Provide logistic support for the lab and help maintain the animal facility. Oversee the duties of undergraduate lab helpers. Assist the PI and other lab members with lab experiments involving adult and embryonic zebrafish, including DNA manipulations as well as some basic microscopy. General lab maintenance including maintaining lab databases as well as making chemical solutions. Compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $22.00 - $25.88 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $22.00 - $25.88 (Hourly Rate).

Required:  
  • Bachelor's degree in related area or Equivalent experience / training.
  • Basic chemistry experience. 
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Basic math skills. 
  • Maintaining a lab notebook 
  • Organizational experience. 
  • Making chemical solutions and simple chemical calculations (weighing, measuring, dilutions, use of a pH meter, calculating molarity) 
  • Using Excel spreadsheets as well as online Google docs/calendars to organize undergraduate helpers and keep track of animal databases. 
  • Ability to record, and organize log books; read and comprehend instructions 
  • Ability to keep track of animal numbers or calculate chemical concentrations, perform basic statistical calculations 
  • Follow oral and written instructions; and pay attention to details. 
  • Strong knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations


 

Preferred:  
  • Bachelor's degree Equivalent experience / training.
  • Molecular biology experience. 
  • Performing PCR and running agarose gels. 
  • Interpreting DNA sequence information. 
  • Microscopy experience. 
  • Using stereo-, compound and/or confocal microscopes. 
  • Genetics experience. 
  • Working with animal models used for genetics, e.g. worms, flies, fish, mice. 
  • Maintenance of zebrafish facility. 
  • Collecting water samples and measure pH and salt concentration. 
  • Monitoring animal health. 
  • Breeding adult zebrafish, collecting and raising embryonic zebrafish. 
  • Gamete collection and in vitro fertilization. 
  • Tail clipping of adult zebrafish for DNA preparation. 
  • Mounting and imaging zebrafish on fluorescent compound or confocal microscopes 
  • Microinjection of DNA or RNA into zebrafish eggs and embryos.
