Center for Nano-Micro Manufacturing (CNM2) is a 10,000 ASF class-100 clean room operated and administered by the College of Engineering Dean's Office. CNM2 is a service organization. The primary goals of this facility are to foster research and education in the areas of micro and nano fabrication techniques and interdisciplinary application of nano- and micro-fabrication. The laboratory is dedicated to research and development in micro and nano fabrication for semiconductor, medical, life and material science applications. Activities relate to micro fabrication using lithography, plasma etch, wet etch, and chemical vapor deposition techniques.


Job Summary

Under direct supervision, assist with operation and maintenance of high-value capital equipment and associated spaces, including environmental controls required to ensure specifications are met. Provide engineering information and serve as a resource to principal investigators and other research personnel regarding micro- and nano-fabrication processes. Assist with engineering aspects of research project implementation involving photolithography, plasma etch, thin film deposition, packaging, metrology, and chemical vapor deposition equipment. Observe field service engineers during service visits as needed. Assist with developing, documenting, and facilitating the implementation of nano and micro fabrication processes. Provide direct and hands-on technical involvement with existing processes and those to be developed. Provide advice and guidance to facility users on the use of machines, selection of novel chemicals and materials to facilitate process development. Using the training guides developed by the CNM2 team train users to operate equipment and to use chemicals and materials. Assist with preparing new process documentation; upgrade existing processes and track process data changes on CNM2's web site. Assist with the review, qualification and accepting or rejecting of hazards posed by novel chemical processing. Assist with training and provide technical support to other CNM2 employees, including both part-time and full-time employees as assigned.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; then on a weekly basis. Priority will be given for applications received by 6/7/2024. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Bend, kneel, stoop, in tight spaces, to access and fix equipment.
  • Lift up to 50lbs to move and transport equipment and supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or other related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Understands standard clean room protocols.
  • General familiarity with the maintenance and troubleshooting photolithography instrumentation such as steppers, contact mask aligners and photoresist spinners. Includes ability to work with various high vacuum and back-end process equipment.
  • Skills to provide training and process development assistance to new users of photolithography instrumentation such as contact mask aligners, steppers, and photoresist spinners as well as various high vacuum and back-end process equipment.
  • Organization and decision-making abilities to prioritize work assignments.
  • Skills to use office-based software to produce concise, quantitative, and clear communications, both orally and in writing including preparation of user manuals, and documentation of process development and equipment maintenance.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with a wide variety of people of diverse cultural backgrounds and at various levels of the organization including off-campus clientele and guests.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:    

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in an environment with chemical, electrical, and mechanical safety hazards and an understanding of risks associated with hazardous materials.
  • Experience with electron beam lithography, focused ion beam and scanning electron microscopy.
  • Experience with Labview or other equipment automation programming.
  • Experience modifying decommissioned high vacuum or other equipment for new purposes.
