The Yellow Cluster is a large academic unit within the College of Letters and Science that serves the departments of Psychology, Philosophy, Center for Mind & Brain, Science and Technology Studies, and Center for Science & Innovation Studies. Yellow Cluster majors include Psychology, Philosophy, Science and Technology Studies, and Cognitive Science. Minors include Psychology, Philosophy, Logic, Data in Society, and History & Philosophy of Science. The Yellow Cluster Advising Center includes six professional staff advisors who report to the Undergraduate Programs Manager, and a team of peer advisors. There are approximately 3,200 undergraduate students in all four Yellow Cluster majors. This position provides comprehensive and wide-ranging academic advising services to a diverse population.


Job Summary

Under general supervision, responsible for providing advising and undergraduate program administration in the College of Letters and Science Yellow Cluster Undergraduate Advising Unit for Psychology, Philosophy, Cognitive Science, and Science and Technology Studies. Provide comprehensive, advanced academic advising on a wide range of complex issues to a diverse population of undergraduate students in the departmental majors. Supervise a team of ~11 students working as peer advisors, including recruitment, training, and ongoing development. Independently handle admission processes for transfer students. Certify completion of major and minor degrees. Provide administrative support, conduct course scheduling, maintain student and instructional databases. Interpret, develop, and implement policies. Administer undergraduate activities. Work with cluster leadership on program development and administration. Manage quality assessment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

·       Experience counseling or advising students in an educational setting.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback, mediate conflicts, and foster a supportive team environment.

·       Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a proven track record of promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.

·       Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team of diverse individuals, including people from various backgrounds and identities.

·       Problem solving skills to identify and document patterns of student academic needs and to develop strategies and programs to successfully meet those needs.

·       Knowledge of educational administrative procedures related to advising and instructional processes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

·       Experience with planning and executing workshops and events of various sizes.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Knowledge of university, college, major, or general education requirements and their application to specific major programs.

·       Understanding of student development theory and how it can be applied in an advising context in order to support student success.
