Description

The School of Education (SOE) Writing Support Center was founded in 2020 to provide Education, Society, and Human Development majors and minors with a comprehensive and community-oriented space to hone their writing skills for their coursework and beyond. The Center supports SOE students with any writing project in one-on-one appointments and workshops throughout the academic term. The Center also partners with faculty to provide assignment support or specific workshops as well as to provide support for graduate school applications, grant proposals, and other writing projects. The SOE seeks to expand the Center to more fully support undergraduate, graduate, and faculty writing in the SOE. The Director will need to establish and articulate the Center's policies and procedures based on the SOE's mission. Will report directly to the Dean and work in collaboration with the SOE Assoc. Deans for Undergrad and Grad Education, the Undergrad and Grad Academic Advisors, and Community Engaged Learning Coordinator to establish and maintain a Center to provide intensive, equity-driven writing and research support for the SOE community. Will oversee the coordination of writing workshops with SOE instructors and further enhance relationships with the ARC, Grad, and Undergrad Writing Centers, University Library, and other programs. Will oversee a team of peer advisors who will provide students with personalized writing instruction that reflects and integrates current writing theory and practice for a wide range of writing projects. Will hire, train, support, and evaluate peer advisors and provide them with professional development on writing pedagogy theory and practice. Will set the vision of the Center, manage the day-to-day operations, administer existing programs, and develop new programming. Will participate in all phases of the Center's research, work independently and with faculty to develop the Center's agendas, work with staff to ensure the successful implementation of the Center's efforts, oversee the Center's personnel, and represent the Center to external constituencies. Responsibilities will be diverse and require knowledge and application of principles from multiple disciplines, including but not limited to writing, composition, pedagogy, scientific research, outreach and external relations, strategic planning, program development, project management, and development. The Director is expected to create and maintain relationships with external constituencies, represent the Center before key stakeholders, oversee the Center's budget, be solely responsible for identifying and pursuing funding in support of the Center's operations, and frequently work with faculty, staff, and leadership of the SOE, to actualize the Center's goals, and work with regional leadership to create partnerships to further the Center's mission and elevate the Center's visibility on and off-campus. Will develop metrics to gauge the Center's progress, adjust programming to ensure adherence to the SOE's mission, and make recommendations to SOE leadership as to changes that would improve the Center's overall efficacy, impact, and functionality. Will be vested with a high level of decision-making authority and independence to act. Most of the position's responsibilities will be conceived of and implemented by the incumbent, without oversight; frequently, they will be solely responsible for every phase of a project or program's life cycle.

The full salary range for the Writing Center Director is $96,700-$184,100 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $162,250 annually.
