Job Description- Join a multifaceted team that covers neurosurgery, neurocritical care, and elective neurosurgery cases.
- Primary role as a neurocritical care Nurse Practitioner working six (6) 13-hour days shifts in a two-week pay period.
- Role may expand to include night coverage as the program grows.
- Nurse Practitioner will be trained to cover all aspects of the neuroscience team.
- Will have the opportunity to cross cover other NP lead service lines.
- Performs routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider's delegation agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing. Under the direction of a physician, the NP will:
- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients.
- Obtain medical histories, examines patients, rounds daily, orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments.
- Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.
- Administer therapeutic procedures such as placement of intracranial monitoring systems, extraventricular drains, VP shunt taps, suturing, and wound care.
- Instructs and counsels patients and families.
- May first assist in the operating room when necessary.
- Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty.
- Completes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years. Complete 32 hours of trauma related CME and 16 hours of stroke related CME.
- Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols.
- Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.
- Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines,
- Maintains a procedure complication rate less than the national average.
- Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.
- Demonstrates commitment to professional department and organizational core values.
- NPs: Bachelor's degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- One year of neurosurgery or neurocritical care experience is preferred.
- Credentialing must be obtained from UM Capital Region Health's Medical Staff Office and maintenance of BLS /ACLS certification is required. ATLS and ENLS certification preferred.
- Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.
