Description
This position is responsible for leading sustainability efforts within Facilities Management and supporting campus conservation efforts, including energy, water usage, waste management, recycling, stormwater, and other disciplines needed to ensure efficient campus operations. This role researches and provides recommendations to FM leadership on the adoption and implementation of sustainable systems and practices.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Three plus years relevant professional experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Environmental Sustainability, Engineering, or related field
- Preferred credentials: LEED Accredited Professional (AP) or LEED Green Associate (GA), Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- 5-7 years of experience in sustainability, energy, or utility management program administration and coordination
- 3-5 years of supervisory and leadership experience
- Experience collaborating with broad spectrum of stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and social media platforms
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Proactively advance sustainability initiatives for the University using creative and resourceful strategies acquired through experience with resource management, sustainable policy implementation, and energy and water conservation best practices.
- Provide leadership and direction to the sustainability and energy conservation staff within Facilities Management. Supervise a team of 1-3 individuals. May include some supervision of part-time student workers.
- Leverage operational sustainability initiatives to engage students, faculty, staff, and support UTD's Strategic Priority for Sustainability.
- Provide overview of capital projects to ensure they are designed and constructed in accordance with established campus energy and sustainability goals, while also meeting operational and quality requirements.
- Collaborate with UTD Research and Academic program staff by providing FM support for periodic student sustainability events.
- In collaboration with other UTD departments, participate in and / or represent UT Dallas in community sustainability events that advance sustainability and educate students.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, as appropriate, including quantitative tracking and lessons learned, in energy conservation/consumption, water conservation and other sustainability programs.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, employing sound financial and business practices, employing appropriate internal controls, and completing other duties as required.
- Compile annual utility reports and forecast future utility expenses.
- Partner with other University of Texas campuses to negotiate procurement of electricity, natural gas and renewable energy. Assist with development of associated energy contracts.
- Prepare utility budget forecasts based upon anticipated energy usage, historical usage research, and projected impact of cost escalation or credits resulting from implementation of energy reduction strategies.
- Assist with developing annual sustainability/energy budget.
