Description

Under the direction of the Director of the Cleanroom Research Laboratory, the Engineering Technician will order chemicals and consumables, perform equipment preventative maintenance & repairs on various electro-mechanical equipment, and on-board new cleanroom user requests. The Engineering Technician will work with other Cleanroom staff to support the daily operation and maintenance of the laboratory. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and troubleshooting various support equipment such as chemical hoods, etchers, spinners, hotplates, contact printers, and various metrology equipment. The candidate will also install, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot as needed, various critical utilities such as UPS, supply of CDA, DI water,
nitrogen, and chemical waste neutralization tank.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field. A minimum of two years experience with lab equipment and related facilities.



Preferred Education and Experience

Preferred experience:
  • Two (2) years of experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of semiconductor equipment.

Preferred skills
  • Practical knowledge and application of electronics, mechanics, vacuum theory, math, and computers.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and ability to learn the operational concepts of systems and how to perform diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques to solve more complex operational and system problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, flow charts, and cause and effect diagrams.
  • Must be detail-oriented, have effective communication skills, self-motivated, self-starter, and ability to work independently and with the team.
  • Must be detail-oriented, a problem solver as well as a decision maker.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Order chemicals, consumables, and parts for the Cleanroom.
  • Maintain various supporting equipment such as optical microscopes, benchtop sputter system, chemical hoods (solvent, base, and acid), various etchers (RIE/asher), lithography (spinner-rinse drier, mask washer, hot plates/ovens, chemical etch/develop systems, mask aligners, vacuum pumps, and chillers).
  • Perform basic electro-mechanical repairs as needed.
  • Responsible for onboarding of new users. Teach Cleanroom Orientation/Safety class. Interface with UTD Safety group.
  • Connect, monitor, maintain, and report issues with utilities such as the supply of CDA, nitrogen, DI water, and exhaust as needed, and maintain stock of Cleanroom laundry.
  • Monitor Ph levels on the Cleanroom Neutralization System and contact reps/vendors if assistance is needed.
  • Periodically move equipment, and tables as needed.
  • Assist in the start-up of new tools and other activities as needed to sustain the operation of Cleanroom safety policies.
  • Be an eye-of-Cleanroom to ensure users follow all Cleanroom safety policies.
  • Adhere to, support, interface with, and implement policies set forth by the University safety and compliance team.
