To assist in the daily operation of the Parking Office at Parking Structure 3 by completing supporting functions as assigned by Parking & Transportation Manager.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or GED and 6 months or more of customer service experience with the ability to handle conflicts with customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Parking & Transportation Assistant performs functions of the UT Dallas parking and transportation office including first-line customer service, citation payment processing, and appeals processing. Receives requests for parking and/or transportation services from University departments and arranges and provides responses, which may entail coordination of services and cooperation with University Police, Student Services, and other University departments. The Assistants are expected to use professional project coordination skills to resolve problems of entry-level scope and complexity; are expected to obtain certifications in the FLEX parking systems management program.

Daily activities and responsibilities typically include:
• Patrol assigned areas by department-owned vehicle to ensure compliance with existing parking rules and regulations.
• Survey and report hazardous conditions such as missing traffic signals or signs, and street markings that need to be repainted or repaired.
• Identify and review parking accounts of vehicles, and install vehicle immobilization devices (wheel boots) on vehicles in violation of UT Dallas Parking & Transportation policy.

• Oversee parking enforcement officers (student workers) during hours of enforcement, including constant two-way communication via MS Teams to verify vehicle enforcement
• Oversee cashiers (student workers) and front desk operations during service hours. Includes assisting with the cashiering, sales, data entry, and elevated customer service concerns.
• Oversee Comet Cab drivers (student workers) during service hours, including constant two-way communication via MS Teams. Includes communicating with students with accessibility needs and ensuring their services continue on time.
• Complete monthly vehicle maintenance and oversee and scheduling weekly golf cart maintenance.

• Reviewing, processing, and assigning parking for special events on campus, including scheduling and assigning resources, and ordering and setting up signage and on site quality control. Sending quotes and invoices to departments for event services rendered.
• Set up signage, barricades, cones, and overseeing staffing for special events.

• Assist with day-to-day Parking Office clerical and customer service duties, including phone calls, email inquiries, requests and answer transportation questions and concerns.

• Perform all other duties as assigned to meet departmental needs

Additional Information

If employee will be driving university vehicles, a valid Texas driver's license must be possessed. Applicant must submit to a motor vehicle record request of driving history to qualify to drive university vehicles.

Position will work in person and on site.

Must be able to work assigned hours, forty hours per week. Shift will be a total of nine hours with a one hour break mid-shift included. Hours will vary throughout the year, but will be one of the following 7:00am-4:00pm, 8:00am – 5:00pm, 9:00am – 6:00pm, 10:00am – 7:00pm, 12:00pm – 9:00pm, or 2:00 pm – 11:00pm. Hours included only Monday through Friday, off on weekends. This is a rotating schedule and will be set for 3-6 months. Very occasionally, weekend work may be required to satisfy special event requirements.

The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to very loud. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run. Primarily an office position, but field work is also required, as needed. Exposure to Weather, Extreme Cold, Extreme Heat, Wet and/or Humid conditions.
