Description
The Export Compliance Specialist plays a key role in the Research Security and Ethics program within the Office of Research and Innovation by performing export control policy compliance responsibilities and coordinating program development and training activities that ensure individual and institutional compliance with relevant federal regulations and policies.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required and one to three years of experience in research compliance.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Professional experience with US federal export control regulations.
- Ability to manage a detail-oriented workload while working on multiple projects simultaneously, and organizing and prioritizing the workload.
- Possess analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment, absolute discretion regarding confidential matters discretion, and tact.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and groups.
- Ability to develop and manage interpersonal relationships and offer excellent customer service and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint). Training will be provided for the use of other software as required (RedCap, Box, DMPTool, TeamDynamix, custom internal applications).
- Must have excellent verbal and communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Candidates should have experience administering federal research compliance policies. Including areas such as export control, research security, cybersecurity, conflict of interest, or grants and contracts.
Essential Duties:
- Perform evaluations and document compliance for institutional activities such as visitor requests, research proposals and awards, vendor and sponsor requests, purchase orders, and travel authorizations for export control compliance (40%);
- Perform monitoring reviews of technology control plans and export risk management plans (20%);
- Provide policy guidance, reports, and other compliance services to institutional partners, including academic schools, departments, and central administration offices (15%);
- Coordinate development and delivery of education and outreach programs (15%);
- Perform record-keeping responsibilities for export control compliance, including file organization, reminders, communications, and meetings (5%); and,
- Other duties as assigned to support the development and performance of new programs and compliance controls related to export control compliance (5%);
Additional Information
FOR FUTURE AVAILABILITY - After the 6 month probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
