JOB SUMMARY
The Specialty Associate Medical Director is accountable for delivering the KP Promise to every member, every time. “Quality you can trust; Convenient and easy to get care; Care with a personal touch; Affordable”. The Specialty Associate Medical Director is responsible for all the care provided within their clinic(s) or subspecialty locations. Leads the people of the local clinical team, sets expectations, promotes clinician development, and provides feedback and evaluation. The Specialty Associate Medical Director will partner closely with the KP manager (i.e. COM) to own the patient care experience in the clinic and the efficient running of the department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Direction
· Participate in local and market initiatives within the specialty, coordinating as needed with other WPMG and KFHPWA partners.
· Participates in the creation and implementation of business strategies and attends relevant meetings as needed to advance tactics and strategies within respective specialty.
Leadership and Teambuilding
· Recruitment and onboarding of new associates and advancement for shareholder status with the assistance of WPMG Recruiting and HR.
· Establish a strong partnership with your dyad partner (i.e.COM) to lead the clinical team at your primary site and any responsible SOP sites. Meet regularly with your dyad partner to review clinic performance outcomes, issues and opportunities.
· Local and regional meetings including a minimum of twice a month rounding with front lines to ensure a two-way flow of communication, problem solving, and relationship building. Determine a rounding schedule with your dyad partner and manager.
· Support the clinical development and oversight of APPs within the department (WPMG and KP employees).
· Communicate regularly with your team and cascade and implement organizational work and standards.
· Accountable for initiating team meetings and 1:1s with direct reports on an agreed upon cadence.
· Understand the annual engagement survey and implement an impact plan, as directed within the organization.
· Develop other leaders in the department and succession planning in partnership with HR
· Ensure a safe, productive and supportive work environment for all staff.
· Create norms within the department for equity, including equity in workload and vacation scheduling at desirable times.
· Partner with primary care, specialty leaders, perioperative and district leadership as required
· Provides input into nursing staff hiring and performance.
· Participate in the selection, evaluation, performance improvement, and recognition of providers in their specialty.
· Complete biennial Shareholder reviews and annual Associate reviews.
· Annually meet with reports to review their individual development plans including Press Ganey self-reflection modules.
· Initiate, implement and monitor Performance Improvement plans (PIPs) with support and assistance of Manager and HR.
· Involve and engage medical staff in efforts to continually improve the delivery of services in their specialty, as well as improve staff engagement and retention.
· Models' inclusive leadership qualities including self-awareness, humility and curiosity.
Operational Excellence & Quality
· Accountable for the local delivery of care services and day to day operations for their clinic in partnership with KP dyad partner to ensure KPWA patients get the best care. Includes a focus on patient access, scheduling, and experience, as well as a focus on quality, safety, and managing clinical risk.
· The Specialty Associate Medical Director is responsible to ensure clinic is appropriately staffed to meet patient demand and clinicians are providing clinical care during scheduled hours, ensuring that clinical schedules are reasonably level, predictable and released no less than 4 months in advance.
· Own patient access at their site(s) with assistance of the WPMG Business partner, KPWA access team, and manager dyad roles.
· Provide support to other clinic locations when necessary to ensure the whole service line is meeting patients' needs.
· Partner with KP dyad (COM) to create processes within the clinic to best utilize all team members skill sets to the extent of their licensure.
· Ensure staff compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
· Contribute to checking processes as necessary to assess provider participation in standard work and new initiatives through rounding and regular communication with staff and HP partners.
· Ensure alignment of operational site(s) overseen-with the service line standards and guidelines. Promote use of practice guidelines and evidence-based medicine.
· Project leadership (ensure all clinicians trained in e-check in, respond to emails about how to apply ECI to visit types, referral management, quick care guides etc.).
· Provide clinical expertise for peer review, medical specialty review, and unusual occurrence review.
· Address and respond to Unusual Occurrence reports.
· Lead organizational quality initiatives within your clinic(s).
· Review harm reports and ensure the red rule is being adhered to.
· Address patient complaints/concerns with staff and at times directly with patients when appropriate.
Financial Stewardship
· Manage clinic FTE and budget.
· Support accurate coding and on-time completion of medical records.
· Work with other leaders to implement strategies that reduce overall costs, improve local efficiency and productivity.
Special Projects
· Lead and participate in work groups, as directed by leadership, aimed at improving utilization, coordination, contracting or internalization of services.
· Other duties as assigned.

Minimum
5 years of medical practice
Experience in medical staff leadership position that included one or more of the following: performance management of direct reports, budget responsibility, working in and/or leading a multi-disciplinary leadership team, working in a managed care environment.
Clinical experience in healthcare setting: Experience in a highly collaborative and/or matrixed environment.
Experience in the service lines for which the position is accountable.
